This movie was everything I wanted it to be and more. I absolutely loved it. It's all i imagined a Christopher Nolan sci-fi space movie would be and he delivered.
Haven't read this thread but it looks like a whole lot of bitching for it to be 40 pages long.

Not to be a dick (and I'm about to be), but that seriously invalidates your opinions on this board.

If you think 2001 is boring, I've got a better version for you.

"They" don't exist in the 3rd dimension, they exist in the 5th dimension. So they can't just simply do these obvious things you mentioned.
Think about it this way, how difficult would it be for you to communicate with a 2 dimensional being? Let's say they exist on a piece of paper. You couldn't write out a word to them because they can't get out in front of the piece of paper to read it. Now what about a 1 dimensional being? Impossible. Gravity is something that has an effect on all dimensions. It has an effect length, width, depth, time (as shown throughout the movie), etc. This is why it was gravity that Cooper used to communicate to Murph.
When Romilly folded over the piece of paper, he explained how "they" helped all they could from the 5th dimension. It would be like you helping your friend on the piece of paper by folding it to get him from one end to the other.
It's all relative...

Ahh yes, sorry. I figured if he missed those two things, then there's no hope anyway.

Everyone is taking what humans said and even the robot said as fact. But the movie reveals at the very end that Cooper is the ghost and that the wormhole opened due to a black hole. All this talk of 5th deminsional beings lacks evidence.

Aside from the fact that the movie would be boring as hell and 1 hour long, the point is not for humans to take the easy way out.
"Hey guys, you royally screwed up and lost sight of what makes you unique as a species. But here's the quick fix for you to just jet over and continue doing what you're doing."

Even overall for movies I've seen in the last couple years these two movies are near the top.
I have you seen Moon?
It's not nearly as visually powerful or beautiful as Gravity or Interstellar, but it has the best story.

I cannot recommend this more highly - essentially a one-man film with Sam Rockwell (with Kevin Spacey's voice for the robot) - David Bowie's son Duncan Jones (yes, Zowie Bowie to us older cats) directed this masterful piece.
I have Interstellar about even right now, with Moon - easily the 2 best science fiction movies of the past 5 or 6 years, probably more (maybe back to T2, but it would depend on what you're calling science fiction, I suppose - Gravity, is not, in my opinion, more of a fictional Apollo 13 - I'm not derogating, because Apollo 13 is a great, great film).

I am trying to rectify a theory and I'm not sure if it has been addressed. When did the wormhole get discovered? Didn't it appear 42 years prior to the movies events?

FWIW, and not that it is dispositive or anything, but Interstellar is already #11 on the IMDB 250.
For reference, more recent movies tend to get a bump (Shawshank #1 ahead of The Godfather and The Godfather II) and older masterpieces tend to drop (2001 is #103 - Stalag 17 is just barely holding on at #242).
