Sorry for gushing over him like that. I see now that I went a bit far with my praise.

Huh?

Did you read my initial review? I said it was a good movie. I gave it a solid 7+/10.

It had obvious flaws, however. My reaction is to those same people who say over and over that the latest Nolan movie is the "greatest movie ever".

No way. It's not even the best Nolan movie ever. I'd put:

The Dark Knight
Batman Begins
Memento
Inception
The Prestige

All above it.

so sorry if it's been discussed but has anyone read the original script? I read it and some comments on reddit about it and found this post to be accurate:

quote:

The original draft is better in my opinion for the following reasons:
Origin/background of the wormhole better explained
Drone in the movie was pointless. Draft script it actually had a major purpose. Plus, it guided Cooper to NASA instead of finding coordinates through some bullshite manipulation of gravity in the film.
Did not include the water planet which basically served as filler material/a way to kill off one character.
Did not have Dr. Mann's character - who I thought I was the worst written characters in the movie.
Chinese plot was very interesting and a good twist in the script.
Actually explored a planet instead of taking pit stops in the film.
Did not recognize the existence of the fifth dimension beings until the third act.

No, just the last couple of pages. And I was mostly referencing your post saying "most unbiased posters rated it in the 70s out of 100, ignore the best more ever rabble rabble". What does unbiased even mean? It just came off that you labeled anyone that rated it ok-good is sane and anyone that thought it was great is obviously a Nolan jock sniffer or something.

So Mann is a selfish and evil in pursuit of himself?

Yeah the only thing that sucked about the 2008 draft is they had a BS love story between coop and brand

The Dark Knight Batman Begins

You lost me right there - "Joker: The Movie" was a great film, no doubt, resting almost solely on the late, great Heath Ledger's shoulders, but Batman Begins was really pedestrian (to use Freaux's weasel word).

Now, I can't speak to The Prestige (I know - I want to watch it with Mrs. Midnight as I think it will be her favorite Nolan film - she's not crazy about Inception or Memento) - but Interstellar is the biggest scale he's attempted with his own stuff.

His own stuff is better than Batman, even Joker: The Movie. Yes, all of it - even The Prestige which I've only seen about 10 minutes of.

I really don't give a shite about Nolan, it was exactly the movie I was wanting. The emotional core, the themes, the concepts, using actual science to tell a story, and really think the message hit home. I stand by it being the most ambitious sci if film set in space since 2001. But just ignore my feelings on it dismissing me as a Nolan fanboy, when I assure I'm not.

That's your opinion I guess. Prepare thyself for the onslaught, though. With that insult to TDK you may have sparked the onset of a Nolan Fanboy Civil War.

This bloodbath will be glorious

I didn't think I insulted it - I've probably said in other places that it suffers greatly from the overwhelming performance of its lead (Heath Ledger as The Joker, not Bale's Batman) - but that it is a great film in its own right. It has to be considered separately from the first and third installments which are, truly, just run-of-the-mill, pedestrian comic book hero movies - not particularly insulting, not particularly interesting, either.

Joker: The Movie - may very well be the best Hollywood can produce in a modern, comic book movie - thanks largely to Nolan and Ledger.

I agree completely. There were some glaring parts that, upon reflection, I wondered if Nolan shouldn't have cut them or gone in a different direction, but overall, the scope, his deftness with cuts, the level of intimacy felt despite literally light years between father and daughter, the idea of love being a dimension, all of this was done so well that I forgave the movie its warts.

I will see it again for sure. It is one of the most intense, awe inspiring movies I've ever seen. I would imagine I walked out feeling almost like those who first saw 2001 or Star Wars when those movies came out.
