for an episode is supposed to kick off the "NEW" office it was extremely shitty. the episode only confirms the show should have been CANNED after michael scott left. now it's just painful, forced and unfunny

Seek immediate medical help. You have a stick up your arse and have lost your sense of humor.

Darryl used to be awesome. But now he just seems forced. I still laugh at him sometimes, but he was much better as the "intimidating black gu manager from the warehouse."

Darrell was much better as a peripheral character who helped reinforce Michael's incompetance. As a main cast member, he just sucks. The whole justification for him A) getting an office upstairs and B) actually being in the running for the manager position is just bad writing IMO

I agree on A, but the warehouse was going away, right? So where was he gonna go?

As for B, I think it's definitely believable that he was being considered...he was the manager of the warehouse, and always seemed to run it well and responsibly..so much so that his request for an early raise was welcomed by management a fwe years back.

so does that mean a manager of a mcdonald's should be in the running?

Darryl had no experience in sales which is vital in that position. Then again Andy sucked but was promoted

Nice work, Captain Shittyanalogy. It would be like a manager of a department (or several) at Wal Mart being promoted to general manager of the store.

He has had some good lines since moving upstairs but his soda line was pretty weak and forced.

No idiot would really say that over the disappointment of not getting the position.

It is not impossible for the manager of a wharehouse to move up to the top.

Hell, pick up the financial section. CEOs of one company, move to another company in a completely unrelated field all of the time.

Oh and as people love to tell me all the time... It is just a TV show. They can write whatever they want.

Wait, are you and Pilot actually disagreeing on something. Let me write this down in my handy dandy notebook for records such as this.

Eh, not so much. The warehouse is the warehouse. It's a sub-function of the actual business of selling paper. A dept manager at Wal Mart still is in the business of overseeing people running the primary business of the store.

I also thought it was very weak writing when Ryan got the promotion several seasons back.

Agree to disagree. Darryl has to have lots of shite in line to run the warehouse (and its, what, 8 or so employees?) efficiently. It's not like he's just keeping the floors clean. But it doesn't matter..

Agreed. But it did lead to some nice storylines later down the road, culminating in the youtube video of him being arrested for fraud. I also thought it was bad writing to bring him back, even if just as a secretary/temp-type. No way a company hires someone who ripped them off and got them into tons of legal trouble. But then again, BJ Novak is a writer/co-producer of the show..
