Pump the brakes. It has to reach about 1.5 bil. to equal TDK and TDKR.

The Odyssey is the biggest opening weekend of Nolan's career. That's not up for debate.

The ironic thing about all of this is there is an argument that can be made that this is a conservative film based on the theme(s).

K. Doesn't translate to 'biggest hit' though, does it? Maybe it will. Who knows? But it hasn't yet. Choose your battles more wisely, kiddo.

In other news.

Emily Wilson's 2017 translation is the credited basis for Christopher Nolan's Odyssey script. Now that the film has made $260M worldwide, she's telling the AP it left her unsatisfied.

Her specific complaints: Zeus and Poseidon cut from the screen entirely, "incoherent" messaging that condemns both war and cowardice, and a Penelope so thinned out it endangers "any possibility of believing in this marriage."

If the translator whose work built the script doesn't recognize the marriage at the center of it, what did the adaptation actually keep?

I don't give a wet fart about "owning" anyone. Mostly because they do a fine job of it themselves.

Like Millie did. Too right.

Then what is your criteria for what would make it his biggest hit? Not vibes, just straight up criteria who believe has to be met to call it such.

Um, highest grossing film? You know, the standard everyone else uses.

Again, maybe it will, but it hasn't yet.

Almost anyone that walks away from this film having SEEN it should think this.

Its very apparent. People are dumb though

Oh shite, scholar who's dedicated her life to studying and translating Homer thinks the movie should have been more faithful to the text?

Wow. I just did not see that coming.

I know, right? Me neither, especially after he publicly praised her so much. The least she could have done is just STFU if she didn't like it.

But of course, expecting a feminist to shut up is like expecting the earth to stop turning.

Go find any smidgen of a statement from me about the quality of the movie. I haven't even seen it, nor will I until it's available for streaming. It's a pirate's life for me.

But Wilson has, and has been publicly praised by Nolan. Just plain disrespect, or as Travis Scott would say, 'disrespek.'

So if a waiter kissed your arse but otherwise gave you horrible service, you'd tip them 20% and not say anything to the FOH manager?

You’re getting downvoted for providing the literal only criteria for “biggest hit” lmao. As of right now, it is not his biggest hit. If it grosses more than TDK or TDKR it will be his biggest hit. End of story no argument.

I saw the film Sunday night, I thought it was good, but now the worshippers of this movie are becoming more obnoxious than the haters.

It’s quite fascinating. It’s just a film, you like it or you don’t, you don’t have to white knight for Nolan on an anonymous message board

Well, you're not famous, nor are you an expert on anything, so it's the closest thing you would encounter to a similar situation.

Would it have worked better if I had said it was at a Denny's?

Logic is not your ally, clearly.

Her work is the basis for the movie. She was praised by Nolan. She then trashed the movie. Your flaccid attempt to turn it on me is where your logic falls off. It doesn't nor could it have anything to do with me, not even analogously.

Just get it, dude.

Weren’t you defending GRRM for doing the same over GoT and HotD?

GRRM is a POS who will never finish a book series. Let him seethe.

And I'm not criticizing her or Nolan, really. I just think it's funny that she trashed the movie.

Good luck with that. I haven't said anything about the quality or the box office success but you wouldn't know that from reading "replies" to me. I haven't even predicted whether or not I think I'll like it. It's like they just go from a script and it doesn't really matter what you have or haven't said.
