Bernthal literally did the “no, no no” thing lmao. He wasn’t playing a character he was playing Bernthal. Lupita did look hot AF in the movie outside of the scar but she was an insolent bitch which would’ve never happened and didn’t happen between those two. Again this wasn’t the odyssey, that wasn’t Menelaus and Helen.

Saw it tonight. I knew they would have to cut out a lot, but so much of the context of the story is about Odysseus hubris, which is lost in the movie.
The episode with Polyphemus is maybe the biggest crux of the whole plot and the movie treats it as almost a random event.
Also no mention of the fact they were almost home when the crew opened the bag of wind.

I liked it. At least the last hour or so was pretty good. Wish they would’ve got the cyclops tanked up. He could’ve been a fun drunk. Maybe in the extended cut…

I agree, “Nobody” is the most famous phrase/interaction in the story and it’s not in this movie. Pretty much sums up the entire thing honestly. And you’re right about the challenge of condensing the story but I think about Clash of the Titans in ‘81 that was an hour shorter but seemed to get all the episodes in clearly and fully so I’m not giving him a pass when he has so much more at his disposal. Like I said when I got out, it’s not the worst movie ever made but it’s a huge disappointment and the hyperbolic praise it’s getting has nothing to do with the movie itself.

Anyway you slice it this has been an incredible run for an R-rated film that is based on an ancient Greek poem. Christopher Nolan's name commands box office clout in a way I don't think we have seen since the days of Steven Spielberg's prime.

Its certainly there.
Not following Agamemnon, thinking he could get home quicker, shooting Polyphemus and ultimately angering him for no reason other than pride and causing the curse from Poseidon (I did miss the "Nobody" bit but also realize Nolan was going for more "rooted in realism""), wanting to be the only man to hear the Sirens and survive, not asking for forgiveness in the storm, despite pleas from his men.
His hubris was fully displayed multiple times.
