He’s not the first writer or director to take liberties with source material. Or add/combine roles. My understanding is the role served as a decent device for the third act.
At the end of the day the casting fit what he wanted in the movie that he directed and he wrote.
Correct. He either intentionally invited controversy with his decisions, or he's a moron who honestly thought replacing Achilles with Ellen Page would just be overlooked by general audiences. I guess, in your case, he was correct.
Pretending this was some normal move only makes you look foolish.

He’s intentionally based.

I think he’s just at a point in his career that if he wants someone in his movie in a certain role he’s going to cast them and doesn’t care.
He absolutely can, but why are people mystified (best case, worst case they just claim it's racism) when people have reservations about those choices? It's his movie, he can have Page play Odysseus if he really doesn't care about the audience's opinions. He can re-write the whole story and still call it The Odyssey. It doesn't make him a bad person or anything, but I do think when you start altering an existing story the criticism is rational.
It doesn't mean the movie can't be good, it just means it's a little different version of The Odyssey than what people expected. That won't impact how entertaining it is for some people, for other people it will. Just like the dialogue bothers some reviewers, others don't mind it.

You make a lot of big stretches about his “agenda” to fit your own.

Directors make weird unconventional choices all of the time. Hell, Nolan is known for it at this point.

No I don't. I just don't think he's a moron unaware of how his choices will be perceived, as you apparently do. I think Nolan is a pretty smart guy. I don't think that's a stretch at all.

Ben Shapiro called Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” a “masterpiece” despite the conservative outrage about the film's cast and historical accuracy:
“Nolan is unparalleled. He’s the best director working today, without a doubt. He just creates iconic movie after iconic movie.”

Lots of arguing in here. Nolan cast the DEIs and freaks to be eligible for an Oscar. Plain and simple.

I don’t think he’s unaware. I think he just doesn’t care. It’s not for some groundbreaking agenda. He merely cast someone in a role he created that he previously enjoyed working with. And thought they fit the role.

now you're really reaching
No more than you making a reach that he cast an actress that he has clear history purely for trans woke points and within 5 minutes into the movie has that trans actress instantly become a pin cushion.
Even by taking all of that into in account by your own admission Nolan would be writing a weakling who shouldn’t be in the war and instantly thinks “Lol needs to be a trans”
How it’s that not based?

Really shows the type of person you are by referring to people as DEIs and freaks

This would be a great thought if the DEI requirements required them to have minority actors and actresses alone to meet the requirement.
You don’t even have to have “DEI” folks on the screen.

100%
The Oscars require it.
He bent the knee.
A 90 lb ugly woman who cut her tits off as the greatest soldier ever, a face that launched a thousand memes as Helen, and a diverse crew...
Nolan is a cuckholded by the message.

Holding up Ben Shapiro an an idol of this debate just shows the difference in how each side thinks. You worship any idol with perceived “standing” while we think for ourselves. Thanks for exposing yourself again.

They literally don’t.
Only have to meet two of the four standards and three of the four standards are off-screen.
Oscar diversity requirements

All things being equal, do you think having a DEI character on screen is worth more or less to the Hollywood voters than having a gay midget operating a boom mic?

You’re never going to get a genuine answer. You have people posting examples from the 50s as race swapping when most people here weren’t born or never saw these movies. Nobody was even asked if they agree with it.

Typical response to facts from you. Shapiro is a political commentator and there are a lot of Marxist or Woke righties who hate him so you’ve made no point as usual.
