lol where did you come up with this narrative? u think he cast them to piss people off rather than because he wanted to have them in his movie?

he's friends with page from before this movie and made a role just for her to play.

I don't know you. Maybe you're stupid enough to think that Nolan picked Emily Wilson & a black Helen (just to name two issues) and was caught off guard when those choices were criticized. I don't think Nolan is that stupid and I know I'm not.

Seriously. These people would both argue Nolan is a visionary director AND that he didn't anticipate there being backlash to these casting choices.

True, there wasn't a high number of roles out there for a 5' 1" transformer to play a mythical Greek warrior. So they had to invent one.

I don’t think he cast them to create backlash. Thats a stretch as well IMO.
I think he’s just at a point in his career that if he wants someone in his movie in a certain role he’s going to cast them and doesn’t care.

Doesn't work. He didn't cast Ellen Page in a role that is in The Odyssey.

He’s not the first writer or director to take liberties with source material. Or add/combine roles. My understanding is the role served as a decent device for the third act.
At the end of the day the casting fit what he wanted in the movie that he directed and he wrote.

He wrote an entire new character who was convinced to sacrifice their life for the cause based on a complete lie to win an unjust fight for power. And a mentor regretted not protecting the character.
And Christopher Nolan who gave Ellen Page a major role and break in a blockbuster as a woman cast her for that role after transitioning……..
You don’t think or see any subtext……
