You could probably check those boxes in something like Deadpool (and they probably were) and the movie still be far from woke.
I do think it's enough to make one question whether or not he set out to make the best movie possible. Sounds like there were other considerations, whether that be hiring a friend, awards, pushing a message, whatever.

Even though I have no way to prove this, with how Nolan did not change any character in Oppenheimer and Batman and stayed fairly accurate with casting choices, I would argue that, had the Academy not changed the requirements after he directed those, he would have stayed accurate with his casting choices for this movie.
Based on pretty much all of Nolan’s previous movies, he held to the descriptions of pretty much every character he has cast.
Unless you have examples of race swaps and gender swaps from his pre-Academy rules change movies.

I still have a problem with the choice. I have, I guess you could say, less since she is a good actress.
But I still have a problem with it.
Not enough of a problem to freak out about it like of these weirdos and to not see the movie and judge it for itself, however.
I'll sit down, try to dismiss those things and just...watch the movie

Somewhat similar to how Egypt responded to the recent portrayal of Cleopatra, although I don’t think the Greek government has commented.

Domino is stark white with a black circle around her eye in the comics.
They reversed that for the movie, black female with white patch around her eye. I was initially skeptical, but they played it off as a joke and it worked out well.

It used to be just diversity quotas off OR on-screen.
Oppenheimer was made during those rules.
Now, the rules are diversity requirements both off AND on screen.
