I might be imagining things, but was the dead dude with the bbc the hearse driver?
Edit-not trying to imply anything crazy with the storyline... Just looked like the same actor

Don't think so
Also in that scene the whole "hey from this picture at a terrible angle tell me that I can say in court that this cut was made but the murder weapon". Yeah that would hold up.

It was a cliche "I'll say what you want me to say" scene. I'm less and less impressed with the writing in each episode. I don't mind a lot of character development if it leads somewhere and is relevant, but It's becoming obvious that they are riding the momentum of a solid pilot without any substance to the rest of the show. They might be able to save it with a twist and a strong ending but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

Put me in this camp. Agree with every bit of this post.

I don't think that will turn out to be the case. There may be some connection, but Dwayne isn't the murder. Neither is Bodie.
I hope it's not whatever guy had that deer mounted on the wall of Andrea's brownstone. Either the stepfather or some previous owner? This is an HBO show with strong racial/ethnic preachy tones, so the killer will be white. Anyway, I'm still hooked.

I think it has something to do with the stepdad. I feel like he wanted the stepdaughter out of the picture to finally get the house, etc

That's what common sense would tell you. A murder that brutal is usually committed by an acquaintance. Not some random street thug, if Dwayne is the killer that's incredibly disappointing (what's the motive????)
Furthermore, if he has a record and a warrant out for his arrest, his prints/Dna would be on file. Wouldn't you think, given the nature of the crime, his dna or prints would show up somewhere in her house?

She owed that bartender money, bartender owed that money to Freddy. Freddy asked Dwayne to make the hit.
Full BS circle that will really frustrate me complete.

Freddy wanted the girl dead and ordered the hit from prison and is now going to make sure that Naz takes the fall is my prediction.
This, to me, is the most likely connection. Freddy is setting up Naz and Dwayne running is because he is either the murder or scared shitless of Freddy.
The motive could easily be drug related or just a simple hit put out by the stepfather… who knows but the more the show goes the more Freddy is connected.
The deer I think is still a huge evidence piece, camera inside the eye is my theory.

I agree with everyone's sentiments thus far.... although I'm interested, this show has wasted a lot of time on things I'm not interested in.
I'm still clueless as to who the actual killer is. I think we all are. And that may be part of the point.
Freddie and Dwayne are most likely NOT involved in the murder... just a couple of random people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time... and the dishonest statements to the cops about being alone will help the defense of Nas.

I understand a lot of people just want to watch a very good crime/justice drama, essentially an HBO awesome version of a Law and Order story. I get people's frustration because despite the tone and focus of the 1st episode this show ins't that at all. That said I find it fascinating TV.
To me the most amazing part of the show was the jail drug smuggling operation. Not that it happens, we've seen that before many times, but that Stone, who obviously has represented many clientele in the drug business (and may have used himself at one point, wouldn't surprise me) gets whats happening and his warning to Naz about it.
Also swallowing grapes has to be tons different from swallowing something thats been inside of a woman for who knows how long. I'll take a beating over that any day.

Did I miss it or was it never revealed what and who the stepfather had the argument with at the funeral?
My guess. Stepfather wanted the house/inheritance. Hired the hitman, (the man he was arguing with). Hitman is connected to Freddy.

I don't think he has been revealed, but I believe the guy at the bar who sold the girl the dope might be that guy.

I hope this is not the case.
I just think the deer mount is symbolic for something.
Is hunting deer a popular hobby for those living in NYC?

Honestly, the writing is sloppy, and at this point any of the random theories make sense.
The direction and production is excellent, but the writing is extremely disappointing and kills the show.
