Or just make up a new pirate story starring David Oyelowo. I just don’t like the “reimagining” of well known property bs.
Why can't this be a story of Captain Mark Starlins?
You want black history? Dude was a badass. That would make an AMAZING movie/series.

Jesus wasn't white with blue eyes btw no one complains about that "reimagining"

If they add a lip plate, neck stretching beads, pet pit bull instead of a parrot, and his sidearm is a Draco, I'm in.

Jesus may well have had blue eyes. Plenty of Roman writing at the time describing someone as having "blue eyes, like a Jew." or being a "blue eyed Jew."
DNA evidence shows there were thousands of people in the region with blue eyes.

That's not my Long John Silver.

ETA: It seems that I myself have recast Robert Lewis Stevenson as a black man. Maybe Paramount plus will hire me
I read your first part and was questioning who the author was of one of my favorite classic fiction novels.
On a side note, Long John SIlvers lady was a black girl in the novel.

I'll be honest, I am not married to Silver being white. So it it looks good, I'll watch.
Honestly, I don’t find Big Jake any worse because Bruce Cabot played an “indian”. Same with Jeff Chandler in Broken Arrow.

Just come up with their own story. Why keep tearing apart another person's work of art?

The reason they attach their projects to the original art is to increase views in the hope that it is successful. There's a reason there have been 100+ adaptations of Long John Silver and theres a fast food restaurant named after him. Its easier to sell something people already know, even if Long John Silver is a cyborg like in Treasure Planet.
Same reason black sails used the same characters from treasure island.

Black Sails was a Treasure Island prequel/ Flint and Silver origin story.

Because thats an easier show to pitch than some generic pirate show with characters noone knows.

But it was still an original story. I'm not saying your wrong about the Treasure Island thing in that it certainly is easier for an established name to get approved/pitch, but Black Sails is a little different given they had no source to go off of.

Why didn't the use some of the cast from Black Sails and continue from there?
