No thanks. I'll just do another rewatch of Black Sails.

Why can't a black producer go Africa, record a boatload of tribal African fables, and use actual black source material to make books, and tv episodes, and movies?

This has to be a money laundering scheme at this point.

Oyelowo is a fine actor and will serve the part well regardless of ethnicity.

In most cases these days they just use the name as a carrot to draw in the pre-baked fans. Then change the story, lose all those fans who love it, and the show flops after a couple of weeks.

This case is different. There are no "pre-baked" fans of a RLS classic clamoring for a remake. This is merely the product of trust-fund-radical, liberal arts majors who want to subvert and destroy a classic of Western literature. That's it. That's the sole aim.

You don’t have the rationality to accept the possibility that they chose an actor who would do justice to the part?
Oyelowo has an impressive body of work.

I suppose if there is ONE conceit, the greatest casting of Long John Silver has already happened.

There are a lot of amazing stories out of Africa; I think part of the issue is that a lot of their culture was handed down verbally (like Indian stories in North America) instead of in written format. Most of the stories and myths that get made into these movies were almost always a novel first.

I had hoped that Moana had made it clear people will enjoy other cultures' stories on their own, even if they were never published to wide-spread Western audiences before hand; sadly, it appears that was not learned as much as I hoped.

I think people just have an issue understanding what a re-imagining is.

This is another re-imagining of treasure island where the character doesnt look exactly like he does in the books.

Disney is also currently developing a live-action Treasure Island remake directed by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz (The Peanut Butter Falcon), described as a modern "Australian surfer" take on the 1883 Robert Louis Stevenson classic.

Stories have been passed down and changing/evolving as long as stories have existed. Even sacred texts like The Bible undergo changes.

You cant gatekeep imagination/creativity, especially when the original story is public domain.

You also arent forced to watch or listen.
