There's not really one particular one for me. I've always loved them (as I assume most have). But I remember watching things like ET and Star Wars as a kid and being mesmorized.

Also, I remember the feeling I had after I watched Jurassic Park in theaters when I was younger. I was simply amazed that a movie could be that good. Plus, I went saw it with my dad and he NEVER went to movies, so it meant more to me in that respect as well.

It kind of happened in phases for me.

I saw Last of the Mohicans in the theater, and I was just kind of captivated by the music, cinematography, and the scope of the story. Also cried like a baby at the end when Magua fights Unkas and Chingachgook shows up at the end (trying to avoid spoilers for any morons that haven't sen this yet). Really showed me how emotional great films could be.

Then I saw Pulp Fiction. Talk about mind blown. This really showed me, and most of the movie going public I guess, that there was an entirely different world of great stories to be told in entirely different ways unlike anything Hollywood had done before.

Good Will Hunting in 98 was probably the final piece of the puzzle for me. It was the first great film and story made by and about people closer to my generation than any Oscar caliber movie I had seen before.

After that is when I really began to crave good films and pretty much started seeing every movie that came out.

Great thread Shark

Blood Simple. It'll always be special to me for that. I didn't know movies like that existed.

Ghandi. Started watching it late one night and ended up staying up all night long so I could finish it. I then realized what a carthatic expericence movies could be.

This is probably the film that made me appreciate animation actually. I was 20 when I saw it and at the time thought that anything animated was for kids. Friend almost forced me to watch it, and it blew my face off. Never thought I'd see animation like that.

I always kind of like movies, but then I saw the departed and realized what a good movie was. Now I try to go out and see as many as possible.

As a kid in the late 60's and early 70's, several...
(and some were reruns or older flics):

Wizard of Oz
Hans Christian Anderson
The Day The Earth Stood Still
Invaders From Mars
It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World
The Amazing Colossal Man
Tarantula
Curse of the Demon
To Hell and Back

And then in the late 70's/Early 80's:
(Some older ones)
The Graduate
Bonnie and Clyde
Slaugherhouse Five
Jaws
Saturday Night Fever
It's A Wonderful Life
Scrooge

Two that came later that surpass most of the above:
The Shawshank Redemption
Fargo

Jaws

I was 10.

It made me want to go to the beach but not get in the water. It terrified me and thrilled me at the same time. At that age, it felt so real.

anytime I am bored I can pop the DVD in and I am a kid again. The movie has never changed for me.

E.T. and Return of the Jedi

good ones especially since i came here to say star wars (a new hope). but i never saw it in theatres. ET i did though and that was the first movie that seemed larger than life in theater.

karate kid was probably first movie i wanted to cheer in the theater.

as i got older in high school/college age it was movies like godfather, citizen kane, maltese falcon, 12 angry men, reservoir dogs, pulp fiction, shawshank, glengarry glen ross.
