I think for the same reason several others are, they have nothing good in their life to occupy that time, so they have to find purpose in misery.

Episode 3 was decent. Numenor was gorgeously done
quote:They hide underground, under the smog and clouds of Mordor, and only come out at night; until Saruman adapts the Uruk-hai.
Interesting to see the Orcs burning under the sun compared to what we see in the later age
quote:it will be hard to detach what we know of his end, for sure
Seeing Isildur young was a little jarring considering.
quote:Galadriel seems to be the tool they are using to connect some of these plots. They're definitely taking some license here, and it feels odd at times, but I can see why they'd choose her.
While I don’t hate Galadriel, she’s not exactly my favorite part of the show at this point. I’m more intrigued by her counterpart imprisoned in the Southlands at this point and how that plays out
She's not in Lindon, and she's not in Rivendell. She's way over in Lothlorien, ruling over a bunch of Sindarin Elves, in what is basically a closed and isolated realm. The Dwarves know to go to Elrond in Rivendell (as does Boromir, and thus Gondor), but Galadriel is merely a legend, and not a particularly nice one.
So, how does the last surviving member of Noldor royalty become so estranged from the rest of the world?
And Elrond does know her, and through him Aragorn. But that's through their past connections, and later the White Council. But even Thranduil (and Legolas) don't seem to have relations with Lothlorien.
I think they're using the early descriptions of her being fiery, proud and willful, to establish that she's rebellious still (and that was one of her early traits). She's mellowed and introspective by LOTR, but that's by coming to grips with the fact that the past several millennia have been an exercise in futility; she must either take the Ring, fade, or return to Valinor. There is no victory for her, in which she gets to keep living in Middle Earth.
In this story, she ain't there yet. She's yet to marry Celeborn, yet to assume control of Lothlorien etc.

It’s been 10-15 years since I dug deep into the appendices and such, this show good or bad makes me wanna dive back in

So I thought it was decent, not great but decent. I’ll continue to watch. Apparently, they already have 5 seasons written so we need to be patient with this show. I don’t find the “wokeness” is too in your face, it’s there but not so much you can’t tune it out. But some of you just look for wokeness in everything. I try and judge a show on entertainment grounds not political.
And it has failed on your 2 grounds

It’s hard to believe this but there was a time when we didn’t have to judge a show on its political ground
That’s because it wasn’t thrown in your face or featured until the white work racists decided to interject their propaganda into every tv show and movie

I believe Amazon has a 'contact us' option on their website. Can you take your complaints up with them, and let people who want to watch and discuss the show, do that in peace?
Because bitching here doesn't serve your cause, all it does is make you an annoyance.
There's Political Talk board to discuss politics. Go form a thread over there, maybe. This isn't the place.
I say this in all seriousness; I don't want politics in TV/movie discussions, or when talking about LSU football, or Saints football, or what line of lawn mower to get, or where to go fishing etc.

My problem so far is with the disservice they are giving Galadriel’s character. She has gone from acting as a refined, wise elf maiden of great stature and power to acting like a spoiled, entitled uncouth brat. Seriously, listening to her dialogue and watching her delivery makes me root for whatever is trying to kill her.
The harfoots are horrible. They are nothing like hobbits described by Tolkien. They literally leave people behind to die and celebrate it. The opposite of hobbit community. And they ripped off their costumes from SG1 characters.
All the other characters, including homeless Gandalf, are completely forgettable. In three hours there has been ZERO plot moving forward or character development.

Any chance y’all could start a separate slap fight thread and leave these for show discussions?

OP is posting threads for those discussing the episodes. If you hate this so much, why are you here?
Because I have an opinion on the episode and series thus far? I gave it three episodes before I decided to pull the plug.
It's always ironic when the white knights for a show act in the other extreme of the "haters" they call out.
We are all allowed to have an opinion. Sammy Tiger doesn't want any of us to have an opinion counter to they/them.

The opinion you weren’t “allowed” to have was that “there is no way a true Tolkien fan can be okay with this show.”
So basically you want the freedom to have the opinion to not allow other people
To have an opinion.
I just pointed out that there are plenty of true Tolkine fans who enjoy it because you can be a true Tolkien fan and enjoy different things about his work.

I'm out. I won't post in threads for a series I have decided to stop watching. I watched the third and final episode I will ever watch. You have fun with "their" version of Galadriel. It's painful to watch.
Some of you are as soft as the idiots who pushed this garbage out though in that any criticism is met with this type of reaction.
Peace

in true "Sammy Tiger" fasion you created a strawman out of thin air.
Have fun beating that strawman.

It’s not a straw man you fricking moron. Do you dipshits know what a straw man argument is?
You’re opinion you got called out on was this:
So either everyone needs to share your opinion or be written off as not a “true” Tolkien fan.
And what did I say to you? Did I say You have to like the show? No.
I said Different people enjoy Tolkien’s works for different reasons.

Meanwhile Democrats, which you can find a common thread with FDR in terms of expansionist safety net policy(which some progressives shared), was also home to the Dixiecrat coalition. Which was the stalwarts of maintaining Jim Crow in the south. And all of this saw a major reshuffling after the Civil Rights Act and the Southern Strategy of Atwater/Nixon. Where former Dixiecrats and southern social conservative progressives began to increasingly caucus more and more frequently with Southern Strategy Republicans, until they simply became one by the late 90’s. Progressivism as a phrase largely came back en vogue in the aughts and 10’s as a way to differentiate from the third way democrats of the Clinton era. But to claim there was some straight line between Prohibitionist Republican progressives and the left of center liberals branding themselves that in the 2010’s would be incorrect.
Just say LBJ fricked the country, especially African Americans and other poor Americans, none of which has to do with the show. 3 episodes in and it’s entertaining enough for me to continue watching.

Left field comment but Galadriel looks like a young Lisa Kudrow.
Hotter but the nose keeps making me think Phoebe.

You're a complete idiot. That comment wasn't even directed at you. It was directed at the poster that told people to take their opinions elsewhere.
You popped in and white knighted and built, yet another, strawman.
I'm sure it's hard to keep up with all of them when you live in logical fallacies on an internet forum.
