Spoilers obviously.

Finished up another rewatch -- just as fantastic as watching it for the first time. Just an all time great.

I didn't post much on here during the initial run. What is everyone consensus on the ending with Nora. Was she lying about going through?

My first watch I thought she was. After my second and third watch, I believe she is telling the truth.

Outstanding TV show. It hit your emotions on such a deep level.

I think she's telling the truth. The way she describes how the 2% that disappeared must've felt is what convinced me.

I keep going back and forth. This was my 3rd time rewatching.

Sure did. Certain times when that music would kick in...whew.

I still think the Season 2 finale is the best episode of the series.

I go back and forth. I have to watch it one more time to really get it.

My gut instinct is - she's lying. She chickened out and then couldn't face Garvey (or anyone she knew) after chickening out. She was stuck Down Under so she stayed there and settled down (so to speak). Her description is how she imagines the 2% are wherever they're at.

Everything about the portal and the "scientists" running it screams "Scam!" Nora is way too worldly to ultimately fall for it no matter what she wants to believe. But, she really wants to believe it, without a doubt. She's lying as much for her own sake as anyone else's.

The entire story is about "The Leftovers" - not the departed. If her story is literally true, it doesn't fit with the show at all, IMHO. Also, after all she went through, if she actually got there and saw her husband and children, even if she perceived them as happy in their new life (without her), zero chance she walks away. At a minimum, she lets them know she's okay and wishes them well. Her not copping to this is the tell it is an absolute lie.

(ETA: Garvey telling her he believes her when it is clearly a lie is an expression of his love for her. Despite her quest throughout the series, she doesn't want the truth, she wants the lie she imagines. Hell, maybe we all do.)

pretty much this. there is/was no explanation for what happened. the whole show was characters searching for an explanation that didn't exist or just coping with the fallout. you could replace 2% magically vanishing with alien abductions, freak lightning strikes, any kind of indiscriminate disaster devastation. I think they just magically disappeared because how/what happened wasn't important, it was never for them to know or understand.

Nora was great at hunting the fraud claims, and was depressed even had someone shoot her to cope. Its irony that she ended up being one of the biggest frauds and just needed acceptance of her lie. Maybe thats something she had taken away from everyone she called BS on fraud before.

I want to believe it’s true…but I cant. Her story just doesn’t make sense. A world with an instant reduction of 98% of the population would have a very difficult time surviving. Also, as already stated, she spent so much time obsessing over seeing her children again, she gets the chance, then doesn’t even talk to them? But the biggest problem is her story about how she got back. How was she able to find the creator of the device? More importantly, had she found him and had she actually gotten him to agree to build the machine to send her back, how could that even happen? There weren’t even enough people left to fly airplanes. Where would the components needed to build the machine come from in that world? There’s just no way that story is believable.

Really a special show. Leftovers and Halt and Catch Fire are 2 of my favorite to recommend to people.

I consider it about as close as a show can get to perfect.

just finished watching through the show for the first time, and the idea that Nora could be lying about going through never crossed my mind.

i dont 100% remember, and i know the scene with her in the machine ended pretty vague, but i never got the sense she chickened out. i think she absolutely went through.

I remember watching the scene or her in the bubble over and over and still couldn't make out what she yelled before the water engulfed her.

I don’t think she chickened out but it’s possible the machine didn’t work. But it was one of those things where it was left up to the viewers as to what really happened.

I can’t remember all the details since it’s been a while but I personally thought at the time she was lying

Outstanding composer... check out his discography on Apple Music... some stunning stuff.

HIs "sleep" collection is wonderful

I've been listening to his "Voices 1 and 2" and its just a good but has an obvious political message
