I just realized the romance novel is actually the book of kevin (or nora) and it's the last page of it.
She called it a romance novel to throw us off.
It has to be the same book.
The last episode is called "The Book of Nora"
Maybe after all this Kevin writes it after not being able to make up with her before she goes into the machine and ends up wherever that takes her.

Idk
This show reminds me of walking into an art museum and looking at a painting....I see a picture with blue paint and red circles and someone else sees a lonely poet asking for a girlfriend.
In this show, I see random things thrown together and other people are writing 10,000 word reviews of their interpretation.
I've asked several questions about characters, stories, etc and I never seem to get a real answer....just people saying "are you paying attention" and "it's not hard to understand". One kind poster linked a recap of an episode which made some sense but I think most of the hardcore fans don't really know what's happening either.

The alternate universe seems like Kevin's playground. He manifests people who are his nemeses or people who he may have a keen and unique interest in and casts them accordingly in his wildest dream. But I don't get why that matters in the context of this show in which, ultimately, we all want to know what happened to the departed.
The Laurie, Kevin, Sr. and Matt episodes were so strong, but I feel like they lost me on this Kevin episode.

I should give this show another chance. I gave it three episodes and had no idea what was going on. I'm assuming things get a little more clear?
I think the confusion of the early episodes mixed with Lindelof's involvement scared me into thinking the show would end and everyone was dead the whole time
ETA: spoilers? I guess?

The first season they followed the book and it took a while to get going. The second half of the season it hits its stride and doesn't look back
The second and third seasons are total original screenplays and writing and are brilliant
First season was good, second was terrific, and this season has been unreal IMO. Stick with it.

I'm pretty sure everything you asked about has been answered.

It's pretty obvious now that this show was never about the departed themselves. It is/was about the "event" of the departing. The show started literally right after the departing . At it's core, this show is a love story between Kevin and Nora and what happens to damaged people if something like the rapture were to happen. It has never been about the rapture/departing people and where they went, though it's a red herring since the plot revolves a lot around finding out (well Nora's arc anyway). It's more like: Something fricked up and mystical happened, now how will people react to it.
The Kevin/Nora arc is one, Matt and his Faith is another, Kevin SR and his fragile perfect delusions, Evie/John/Erika, Meg, Tommy/Holy Wayne, Laurie, the GR, etc. All these people had direct arcs that related to the departing and the aftermath. We don't need to know what happened to those people who departed, and I honestly don't think we will.
The closest we will get will be whatever happens to Nora when she goes into the machine, but I doubt she ends up seeing anyone that departed.

BUT I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, HOW IT HAPPENED AND WHERE THEY WENT!
I would feel kicked in the teeth if they didn't tie that end. I'm not owed that, but I do want it. I want to know more about that than I give a single shite about Kevin and Nora's love life.

You're watching the wrong show then. The show runners have already said 3 years ago at the beginning that they most likely are not going to answer the question of what happened to the departures.

You are right on with your interpretation I just think the show owes us some answers on wtf is going on with Kevin and his ability to die and come back. That has seemed really out of place along with some of the other people that have shown special abilities.
I think everyone wants to see how it all ties together with the event and it seems pretty clear we aren't going to get that which is frustrating.

Well the showrunners can go frick themselves.
Posted on 6/2/17 at 1:52 pm to The Sad Banana
Fair enough, but how mad can you really be if they acknowledged from the very beginning that they weren't gonna address it? Shouldn't have gotten invested in the show then if you solely want an answer to something they said they wouldn't give.

You are making an assumption that I have the time, outside of work, working out, being a parent, and posting on this message board, to actively search for what people behind the show have to say about it. I don't.
To answer your question, I won't be mad long because it isn't something to be mad long over. But it is kind of annoying when that event is the biggest mystery in the show and they won't even give any insight into it. That's a bummer.

With that said, be angry, or don't be angry at the show. I'm just saying you can't really lay it on the creators when they specifically told you what the focus of the show is. And if you didn't know what they had said about their show prior to watching, well that certainly isn't on them.
Posted on 6/2/17 at 2:46 pm to monkeybutt
It's still a stupid idea to make a show about a big mystery and then never address the mystery.
Posted on 6/2/17 at 2:53 pm to monkeybutt
That's like writing a book about a murder mystery and then only writing about how the people close to the victim felt about it and then never addressing who did it, why, etc.
