quote:That doesn't necessarily mean she's not dead. I think Kevin subconsciously populates that world with whoever he wants. He believes it's some version of the afterlife so it's full of people he knows to be dead. Or in the case of Mary, maybe a lost soul outside of its body. Regardless, at this point he would be unaware of Laurie's death so he can't put her there yet.
But Kevin didn't see her in the other world, or whatever, but he's seen everyone else that's died.
However, the "God" character doesn't seem to fit that mold unless maybe they showed a picture of him on tv back in season 2 when they were talking about him on the news. I don't remember.

Kevin is present in both but he is technically dead in our universe while he is in the alt universe. So I don't think that is a conflict. The confusing thing is if the alt universe has everyone that has died then it would bring up tons of other questions, like does it hold everyone who has ever died? Or just people from a certain time period? Or can you die in that world and then move on yet again to another alt universe?

Has Kevin been going to this Alt Universe on his own when he has the bag over his head? I'm just wondering if the time we see Nora catch him in the act was what the writers wanted the audience to see, but in fact Kevin has been "traveling" back and forth in private all along?? Sorry if I'm late to the party on this line of thinking.

And as long as I'm cluttering the board with nonsense...

Yes. He told Laurie that he's never felt more alive than in that place.
Assassin Kevin told President Kevin to "get this thing out of me so we can never come back here again." I took that to mean he had been going there a lot.

And what exactly is the point of the alt universe?

I don't think this is correct. I think in both instances, he's just referring to the two times he went in season 2. To reach this purgatory, he has to actually die. The bag over the head instances, he rips it off before he fully suffocates.

Yes.

No, he only went both times he died prior. He did not go back again until this episode as President. That's for sure. The whole Season 3 plot was setting up this return trip. If he just went back and forth as he pleased all the drama and suspense would have been sucked out of the show.
"Oh, Dad, yea np I'll just put this bag over my head and get that song from Christopher Sunday, no biggie."

Interesting insight from Damon Lindelof:
quote:
"Kevin Garvey has now died and come back to life a few times. He's had what some would describe as an incredible spiritual experience in the 2nd season of the show that has him believing he's an International Assassin. He felt powerful, he felt like he had purpose, he felt alive. This was very unhealthy behavior, suicidal behavior, psychotic behavior. He's acting in a self destructive way to escape this new relationship he has with Nora.
This is really a love story for him. But there's something broken inside of Kevin. There's something that needs to escape and can't be with Nora, that feels like he's a coward and that's really what this 7th episode is about resolving: This part inside of him that doesn't want to allow his heart to be broken and has a tendency to run away from his relationships. Unfortunately this revelation may have come too late because Nora is already on her own destination far, far, far away from Kevin Garvey."

maybe don't overthink it. it's perhaps Kevin's version of an extreme daydream - or extreme distraction from his responsibilities and relationship and things that need proper attention. And when he finally saw himself in the last episode he had a come to Jesus with himself when he realized he was ruining and losing the one thing that mattered most - his relationship with Nora. Which is why he opted to destroy his dream world once and for all, to ensure he could never return.
At the end of the day isn't this show supposed to deal more in relationships rather than explain the details of the departure and other related mysteries?

Our forefathers left Europe in the 12th Century on trains ,enduring tremendous hardship and then thought they fought the Nazis to free the slaves. Never realizing of course that they actually fought so that one day Free Americans could watch The Leftovers. God bless America. And God bless President Kevin .

I mean, he has to physically die to go to this place. I think it's a safer bet to think if it more like purgatory.

I never claimed the thought to be one based in logic. This is the leftovers we're talking about after all.

Idk but it would be nice to know what's going on. I love a good mystery but this show really drops some WTF moments.
