re: The Last of Us | S1, E7 | NO GAME SPOILERS Thread

Game player here.

The threads keep turning into shite shows. The same 4-5 posters bitch about the smallest details and ruin each thread.

I'm definitely bringing it back for the next episode if nobody else does.

I read the first half of this thread and had to bow out.

I finally watched this episode. It did drag at times. I did play on my phone for a few minutes. But I will say that the last few moments were pretty powerful. Going back and forth between Riley and Joel. Maybe it was the music. I don’t know. I got chill-bumps.

Also, just my opinion, but Bella Ramsey has a beautiful smile. It was good to see that side of Ellie, though it was short-lived.

WTF was that episode? The entire point was to shove the lesbian angle to the viewer? We know she was bit. So you spend 95% on the love story and 5% on the actual interesting part?

I wasn't a fan of hers in Game of Thrones, her character annoyed the hell out of me, but by that time half of the characters annoyed the hell out of me.

I do think she is a relatively good actress. Let's be honest, most kid actors suck, and she is better than most. But I am having a hard time trying to like her. Maybe I'll eventually get there but I don't really even blame that on her, I think she is doing about as good as you could expect. Nico Parker (Joels actual daughter in the show) is clearly a better actress, she absolutely killed it in the pilot. But people would prefer a white kid that is not as good of an actress than a race swap using a kid that is a much better actress.

I feel like we might see a change in her character a little bit after this episode or at least a bigger change in her and Joels relationship.

Hopefully the writing will get better. I've definitely been a bit disappointed. Especially considering it was the the Chernobyl writer (one of my all-time favorite shows) and how pumped the pilot had me.

I'm so torn on whether I like this show or not There will be stuff I really like and then there will be stuff that's just not good.

She’s 19. Not sure I would consider that a “kid actress.”

I’ve been trying to keep an open mind about it but there’s definitely something off with her. I think her accent plays a part, she’s doing a good job hiding it but it makes her delivery weird.

I’ve said this before but I think Kaitlyn Dever would have been perfect for the role.



Her character in Justified was basically Ellie from Kentucky.. without the apocalypse. She was reportedly interested in the role as well, so it blows my mind that they didn’t go that route. I guess it’s possible that she just can’t pass for a young teenager anymore.

I would have went Dafne Keene. She is a really good actress but she would probably have a hard time passing as a young teenager now as well even though she's younger than Ramsey.

I think it’s fine in one thread as long as nobody acts like an a-hole and spoils stuff. I know some people don’t like to read about differences in the source material and I’ve seen a little bit of that in this thread, but only after someone straight up asked about the differences.

There’s only so much to even talk about in the gamer threads.. especially with this being a pretty damned close adaptation with a fairly limited amount of source material. It’s not like GOT where you have a ton of material that gets pared down. It’s kind of the opposite. So the high points of the next two episodes are pretty obvious if you’ve played the game.
