The problem with the supplemental material here is that it appears to be essential to understanding the story.
The EU for the original trilogy never mattered. It was a bonus, not an essential plot point. You don’t need to know what happened between Empire and ROTJ to enjoy the movies.

Instead we got random janitor who went on his first ever mission and got scared then kept being a scared little bitch until a Vietnamese chick convinced him to destroy a random casino and then kissed him or whatever

I don't blame Boyega for the character, I've seen him in other things and he's a perfectly fine actor. I'm happy that Kelly Marie Tran got her big break with The Last Jedi. That having been said, their characters are more dull then a butter knife and their plot did diddly doo da to advance the movie.
Finn is a bad character, in a bad plot, in a bad movie.

Hadn't seen her in anything before this, but she was so thrilled to get the role that I'm happy for her. More power to her. Its a bad character but I thought her acting was fine.
