Spoilers
This was my understanding.
This also brings up one of those weird time traveling paradoxes.

Would he have been referring to the body of Mr Hill that they had recently discovered in the walls?

I really just appreciated the show as a family gothic/tragedy with horror overtones. Anyone with children had their hearts broken several times over by this one.

Just finished this.
GOAT 2018 TV show. Maybe best thing I’ve seen on TV all year, including movies.

Just finished this weekend and it was awesome.
It was so creepy and suspenseful. Had us on pins and needles.
Bent neck lady fricked us up and to find out it was Nell was shocking. And when she jumped out the back of the car- I think we all screamed.
My 15yo was sleeping in our room afterwards lol.
Cheers to the movie board once again. Reason we watched.

I just finished this as well.
It was pretty good up until the last episode, which I hated.

Yes Ep10 was very anti-climatic.
Was waiting for the scares and it didnt deliver.

That’s pretty much the way I felt about as well.

I was too until I realized the point they were making. After that, I really enjoyed it. Episode 10 redefined the entire story, almost changing the genre.

It’s hard to end a scary movie. That’s why most end with a big violent scene, then a ho-hum everyone going their separate ways. I was underwhelmed by the last episode too, but have to keep this in mind.
I would have liked a few more scares, but overall, it was really really good and I enjoyed it.

I understand why they went that route with Ep 10 and it was still decent. I just wanted that one last big scare that makes me jump off the couch lol.
Show was truly amazing- I have 3 friends binging right now and they are loving it.

Finished last night. Easily the best thing I've watched this year, I felt like I did when watching Breaking Bad in that I wanted to know what happened next but I so didn't want it to end.
The usage of time hopping to tell a story, which West World disguised so well and relied upon to tell the first season's story, was really expounded upon here. The seamless transitions from doors opening, walking through thresholds, or cameras taking on a first person perspective to jump from period to period were masterfully executed.
My family recently went dealt with the suicide of one of my older brothers, and the scene in the funeral home that bounced from different perspectives dealing with denial, anger, guilt, accusations, and remorse really punched me in the gut. Credit to the writers who obviously have experienced some catastrophic loss in their own lives.
I interpreted Hugh's death as having occurred after he helped Steve get Luke out of the house. If you remember, Luke was draped between them like you'd see a football player exit the field with assistance. Thus, Hugh had to still be alive at that point.
He bargained to kill himself in order for Olivia to open the door and save the children, then he offed himself with the heart pills after he helped Steve understand the extent, the magnitude of what the house really was. And he was definitely at the top of the stairs, he didn't jump and he wasn't pushed.
I was surprised to find out that Abigail was real, and that whole scene was just brutal to watch. I suspected the Dudleys would play an important role to the outcome when Mrs. Dudley confided her loss to Olivia, and when Mr. Dudley warned Hugh about what the house did to people. When Abigail began choking I put it together. And then the scene at the end when Mr. Dudley raced through the woods to make sure she died in the house to be with her children...that got me.
The only child actor that didn't set well with me was Shirley, though the girl really did nail older Shirley's constant bitch face. I thought young Luke and Theo were fantastic.
Creepiest ghost, for me, was the fricking floating tall guy (William Hill). When he was first revealed I may have shite my pants.
Incredible series.

Yea, I wouldn't describe this show as a scary or horror tv show, its more of a psychological thriller/mystery. And honestly im glad it played out that way. The jump scares and all that are fun, but with too many of them it gets played out very quickly. I think this show had the perfect amount of "scares" mixed in. The one jump scare everyone keeps talking about in the car in ep. 8 worked so well because we were actually invested in their conversation, we weren't just sitting there waiting for something to jump around a corner
Oh, and Im sure its already been talked about but those long continuous shots for episode 6 was phenomenal

It's a perfect update on the classic gothic horror genre.

Also, just want to throw out that Nell’s message to her siblings in episode 10, after she woke them up and addressed them each in turn, “There’s no without. I’m not gone. I’m scattered into so many pieces, sprinkled on your life like new snow,” is just perfectly written. So much gravity and weight in such flowery, succinct language. I’m going to share it with my parents the next time I see them.

I finished it Sunday.
The build up was 100x better than the conclusion. It was a fun ride with a weak finish, IMO.
Still a solid show though. I enjoyed it.

I’m not discrediting the writing here, but I felt like episode 10 went off the walls in terms of dialogue. It almost felt like a screenplay instead of natural speech.
No clue if it was trying to do this or what, but it really turned me off having to listen to ghost characters sound like they were reading a book every time they spoke.

Otherwise what a great show. Best Netflix has done by far.

The flapper ghost manipulated Olivia to the point where she believed that she needed to kill Nell and Luke to protect them from the dangers of the outside world. They would stay young and safe with their mother for all eternity. Olivia, in a state of psychosis, went to bring Nell and Luke to the tea party in the red room and found abigail asleep in Luke’s bed. She asked Abigail a question about her mommy (I think) and, satisfied with the response, included her in what was to be a group murder/suicide.
Watched Apostle last night. Jesus that was brutal. Couldn’t turn away from the screen though.

It reminds me of the "I hope" monologue at the end of The Shawshank Redemption. It doesn't sound like something that character would have said in normal conversation, but it sums up the theme of the movie well. I think that's what they were going for with episode 10. It worked for me.
Easily Netflix's best show. I really hope there isn't a season 2 with these characters because it wrapped up perfectly. The show's creator apparently agrees.
