Yeah honestly I wasn't even thinking that far back at first. Mash is the clear winner. The show broke records. We would have fun getting stoned watching tv I guarantee it.

Does I love Lucy qualify as a sitcom?

I'm a little surprised that Scrubs doesn't get an honorable mention (minus that last season when they tried to do a spinoff). It probably isn't the best but it was a brilliant show with fantastic characters. The ending to Braff's last show was great.

Seinfeld. Pretty incredible that episodes from 20 years ago are still being shown. And are still funny.

Depends on what constitutes greatness but easily the funniest to me was Married With Children. I will say this, The Big Bang Theory is right up there with Al Bundy & Co. on the laughter Richter Scale.

In terms of overall quality of production an recognition it's pretty much a toss up among:

Seinfeld, All In the Family and M*A*S*H each with 8 Golden Globe awards and The Andy Griffith Show with 6 Prime Time Emmy's.

It's Seinfeld. No question. All the other answers are wrong.

I still watch seinfeld on an almost daily basis.

The only show that's close to as funny is its always sunny
I've watched probably 30+ sitcoms regularly. These two plus the Office are my 3 favorites.

Probably Sienfeld but It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is my favorite at the moment.

And Maude CoCo.You've got to be trolling.

Cheers.

And if you go with the Cheers/Frasier world as one long sitcom it's not even close.
