I know he's in the 2nd one, as I'm almost finished with it. I would then assume he's in the 3rd.

I've been reading some reviews online - most people say it was good, not great. That it stuck to the book well, but the first 15 minutes was chaotic (introducing every single character, no matter how minor), and the "ending scene" still left another 30 minutes in the movie to tie up loose ends in the story line, and that it drug on during that.

Anyone who has seen it feel that way? I should be seeing it next Tuesday.

It wasnt chaotic to me because I had read the books and knew who the characters were. And it did go one after the "ending" but the book did too. Had to set up the next one.

Yeah, I guess that's what they mean by "following the book closely" - could be a bit of a drag on screen though. And I don't like them introducing all the characters that early - the book takes its time in that regard.

i was definately struggling to remember all the characters on the island and how they related to one another after Henrik introduced them but i did not read the book..it's definately one of those movies you need to watch twice to pick up on different details

Haven't seen the new one, but I've read the book and seen the Swedish film. Who is the better Lisbeth? Noomi Rapace or Rooney Mara?

I thought that each character needed to be introduced because it built a platform for the audience. Also, it would have made things very obvious if they only showed a limited amount of characters.

I'll take Mara, she's edgy. But at the sametime you wait for her to come out of her shell towards Daniel Craig's character.

WHY DID THEY DO THIS?!?!?! It creates a major plot hole. She says that she pretended to be Anita, and moves to London. Then Anita died in a car crash and she assumed Anita's identity. How did the news that Anita died in a car crash not get back to the Vangers? This seems like something any private detective would have figured out pretty easily. I dont know why they couldnt have just left it the way it was in the book.

I think you may have mixed up my post. They just switched locations in the movie [ Instead of australia, they placed her in london]. She still took over Anita's identity and they explained the car cash that anita was in twenty years ago. I'm sorry for confusing you.

In the book Anita and Harriet are still alive. From Wiki
quote:

Salander's hacker acquaintance, Plague, sets up a phone tap on Anita Vanger's home in London. This proves that Harriet is alive, and located in Australia. Blomkvist flies over alone to find Harriet, because Salander's mother has just died. Harriet tells Blomkvist that her father, and then her brother, had repeatedly raped her. Her father had not drowned by accident: she had killed him. Martin had witnessed the murder. Anita had helped her to leave Sweden secretly and to go into hiding. Blomkvist persuades her to return to Sweden, where she reunites with her great-uncle, who makes plans for her to take the position of CEO of the Vanger Corporation. Blomkvist accompanies Salander at the funeral.

I think the plot whole is still there though. If everyone knows of Anita's death in the crash, how can Harriett pretend to be Anita?

True, there were a lot of damn Vangers - each time I skipped a couple of days reading, I'd have to go back and look at that diagram for reference.

Interesting - a couple of reviews I read hinted that Mara stole the show and it was Daniel Craig whose character seemed a bit reserved (of course he is reserved in the story, but they just made his performance sound forgettable)

I think the fact that an audience had to take in the exterior look of lisbeth, along with the personal situations that she faced thru out the film. Makes her character out shadow daniel craig's performance. As the film goes on you see mara's character grow as a human and not so cold. Daniel Craig's character doesn't really do much sole searching in this film.

The ending was the only problem I had with the movie. Definitely agree, sets up some major plot holes. There is no way the whole Anita/Harriet switch could have gotten past Salander, even if there was some way Anita's death hadn't gotten back to the Sangers.

Still great, fwiw.

This movie was very good, so it was worth filming no matter when the Swedish one was done.

That movie was awesome. Lizbeth was awesome, she will definitely see some awards her way. Beginning was a little confusing, but necessary.

Saw the movie with my mom
