Not to hijack, but after clicking on that link I had to listen to quite possibly my favorite song of his.

Ray Kroc was an unbelievable piece of shite. He stole every idea and standard from those brothers and undercut everyone in his way. You can call him ruthless but I tend to categorize it as unethical dick.

Good movie, especially Keaton's performance, but not great. Wondered why the wife (Dern) was in so many scenes without saying more than a word or two.

It brought back memories of the excitement of going to a McD's in the 70's. Especially if you lived in a small town w/out one.

Lafayette had Burger Chefs and one Burger King in the 60's. McDonald's commercials were torture for us kids.

I enjoyed it

I think Ray did what was necessary and the brothers got a fair shake for what they did

Absolutely. It would've never expanded and revolutionized the industry throughout the country without Ray. The brothers ended up ahead, and I don't buy that they were so screwed and bitter despite how hard the movie tries to convince you. In fact they still played ceremonial/promotional roles IRL with the company for long after. They had a great idea but were simply unwilling and unable to expand it without Ray

Just watched it and I tend to agree with you. I was left with one question after watching it. Would the brothers still have chosen to partner with Kroc knowing how it would eventually end? I mean they both were millinaires after the buyout and they would have never been close to that without Kroc. Or would they have been happier just operating their single restaurant until they retired or were forced to close down?

I would choose partnering with Kroc every single time. Give me $1 million tax free in 1961 and I would be Ok with that.

When Richard McDonald died in 1998 having outlived his brother he left a will of just $1.8 million - and spent his final days in a humble three-bedroom suburban home.

That has to be better than 98% or 99% of the people dying in 1998.

Ray Kroc was a dick. Stole his business partners wife. Couldn't do it on his own so he bought or took others ideas. Good movie though

I didn't see it as that though. She had an entrepreneurs mind like him and they both wanted more. Some people have amazing ideas but wont or cant do anything about it, I thought it was a great study of someone who swings for the fences and does whatever they can to be successful

Good movie. How old was Croc when he started making money with McDonalds? 52? Great inspirational story on not giving up, among other things.

Yeah but you never got the feeling the McDonald bros saw the potential and big picture.

They had a few Hamburger stands and seemed content.

And it wasn't chump change for the Bros.

$2.7 million in 1961 is equivalent to 22 million today.

Good movie. Just makes me wonder had they stuck to the brother’s business and quality standards if the restaurants would be the disaster that many are today.

disaster? You mean the biggest fast food chain in the world?

Anyway yeah Croc is a prick but the brothers didn’t seem to understand what they had and Croc did. He made them rich despite themselves

Great movie,

Krock comes off as a POS
The McDonalds brothers come off as being completely idiots in business.

They had a contract with RK that they could of squeezed him for way bigger and better stock deals. Instead, they make a hand shake agreement with one of the most ruthless business men of the late 1900's. Dumb asses.
