I know they could just find another tall guy to wear the suit, but isn't the main guy that always played Chewie pretty bad off at the moment?

Probably will be cool. But keep in mind that's not a Jedi Master versus a Sith Lord. Neither of them will have the same swordsmanship like what we saw in any of the prequels. Instead it will probably be closer to what we saw in the original Star Wars between an elderly Obi Wan & Vader, or in Empire Strikes Back against a young and barely trained Luke and Vader.

Mayhew looked pretty decrepit at Comicon.
ETA: A guy 7'3" making it to 70 is pretty incredible.

According to his Wiki page he had pneumonia back earlier this year. That's usually pretty rough on a guy in his 70's.
