quote:you clearly didnt grow up on marvel comic books in the 70s because if so, an actual Galactus is huge.
anyone else completely underwhelmed? maybe i’m just aging out but after that trailer, I have no desire to see it.
its about time.

Watching it again a day later...
I'm the biggest superhero fan in the world, but even I'm pretty jaded at this point. The uniforms, the actors saying the character names... there was a time when that was enough to get me excited for these movies. Now, I couldn't tell you what happened in the last Dr. Strange movie, and I don't think that I ever finished watching Daredevil or Punisher on Disney+.
But looking at it today... and knowing that the stage design for that one image is the Beatle's stage from The Ed Sullivan Show... knowing that's John Malkovich with the long hair (please God, let him be Red Ghost*), me not wincing as I wait for the trailer to go terribly wrong, I'm more excited.
With these trailers today, I'm looking more for a good feeling about the project than the details. Gunn's Superman has wonky bits, but I get the feeling that it's one of the good versions of Superman in that movie. For now... I'm getting the feeling that Shakman has some sense for Jack Kirby's Fantastic Four. He has a short track record, so I'm still wincing as we go forward.
*Red Ghost is one of the best ideas ever. A Cold War Russian taking apes up into the same radiation belt that created the Fantastic Four, and coming back with a superpowered gorilla, baboon, and orangutan... THAT is the Silver Age of comics at its best.

Follow up - at the 15 DVs to my post.
Really? No replies, but 15 DVs. I didn't even get to FEMALE Silver SerfHER, which wasn't in the trailer but we all know is coming.
So, why the DVs? What did I say to upset the delicate flowers on this board?
FTFY
I'll take a crack at it tho.

Overall look and style - impressive.
Pedro as Reed Richards - terrible casting.
Ben's voice - awful.
*Sue Storm - very pedestrian.
Johnny Storm - Looks to be Johnny Storm. Decent.
Proper Galactus (shadow)
Going in, I'm seeing a C+ movie. Casting and some choices were done poorly. Giving Ben a turtleneck? Feels like it was done to cover up his CG body, which is weird, because we've already seen Korg from the Thor movies.
*As a kid, I always felt she was too young for Reed Richards. Seemed she was dating her dad. I'm cool with her being more 'age appropriate', but still could have gone a different way.
Agree on look and style. This is supposed to be a silver age comic movie and it looks great in that respect.
Pedro as Reed is certainly different casting but he literally does nothing yet in the 1 minute and 38 second so I can't say it's a horrible choice until I watch the movie. I don't think the casting is as bad as you are making it out to be IMO.
Ben's voice showed up for 7 to 10 seconds of dialogue. I'll have to wait and see it more in context when the actual movie comes out. Ebon Moss Bachrach is a great actor so I will give him the benefit of the doubt and will say that he will do a good job both voicing and acting
Sue Storm pedestrian. Once again it is a minute and 38 second trailer and she isn't the focus. She was reserved in this but I think there's a reason. She gives me mom vibes you know because I think she will actually be a mom in this. Once again, wait and see.
Galactus can't and won't be messed up IMO
Judging by the trailer, I am expecting a tier 1 Marvel movie but call me an optimist. This movie kind of has to be a tier 1 movie. I have faith in the studio to get this right. See your/my comment on look and style. It isn't everything but my god does it give them a massive head start.
If you think this movie will be shite based on that quick teaser, I think I heavily disagree. They accomplished their goal with this trailer. They gave just enough to really give us the vibe and feel of the team. They seem close knit in this and it shows in the trailer and I think that is what the studio is going for. Soundtrack is also good and gives a 60s vibe which I really like a lot.
I have faith in them getting this right. I think the downvotes to your posts probably reflect how you are saying this will be a shitty movie when the vibe of the teaser is actually showing people "oh shite this has potential."

So far I gave it a C+ and explained the parts I didn’t like. Pedro Pascal is just a flat out bad cast.
(As much as I am a fan of Jessica Alba I thought she was miscast as Sue Storm. Not that she didn’t do a good job in that movie, she just wasn’t the right actress. Even more so for Pedro).
Ben’s voice as The Thing is as iconic as his orange rocky exterior. It’s supposed to be gravelly, a bit rough, not sound normal like we saw with Korg. That was an artistic decision, same as putting him in the uniform right away.
And it doesn’t matter if it was three seconds or three minutes, certain things jump out immediately during a trailer.

The female surfer is Shalla Ball right? Surely later they’ll bring in the Norin Rad surfer, right?

the FF uniform/costume is just so lame looking. hard to take anyone seriously wearing it
Posted on 2/5/25 at 7:47 pm to Boodis Man
Looks like the John Byrne run uniforms.
Kinda.
I bet they wear the classics at some point.

The casting is terrible. None of them are particularly attractive or charismatic.

At least galactus isn’t that vague smoke creature like the previous incarnation

Rumors are that this will be a Multiverse segment and that pretty much anything is in play. Probably how we are getting a Doctor Doom played by Tony Stark. Or however they want to spin it. On idea is that Galactus my very well win in this version, and they have to escape & hop into another multi-verse Earth.
Hope I’m wrong.

I thought they had Hulk going in the right direction until they nerfed him almost into non existence.
The comics go all sorts of directions with Hulk:
Uncontrollable rage hulk
Can talk a little bit antagonistic relationship with Banner Hulk
Fully intelligent in control Hulk
Big Green Banner Hulk
Big Green Banner Hulk is the lamest and that’s where we are.

Apparently Grimm likes hitting up black single mothers. Might have to check out the movie.

but with Dr. Doom supposedly appearing in Secret Wars, I'm wondering if Secret Wars will not just bring together heroes vs villains like the comic, but time traveling heroes and villains. Like... would Chris Evans show up as the WWII Cap, the FF in their Cold War iterations...
—Glad to say I have no clue what this means.

I have to ask, but when did they race swap Alicia?? I swear, as a kid, I remember her as being black. I know she was portrayed that way in the 2000's movies, but I thought there was a run where she was a smokin' hot black chick. Blind, sculptor, smart and very self sufficient, which all played into her and Ben being really a good match.
Looking back at the 1962 origins, she was lily white with blonde hair.

Don't know when you were a kid, but I was a comic book nerd kid in the 70s up to the late 80s, and she was white with either blond or light red hair that whole time.
I know they made her black for the 1st theatrical movie with Chiklis as The Thing; maybe it was then.

I think the Chiklis movie messed with my mind then, because I have a Mandela Effect memory of her being black in the comics, which would have been around the mid 70's.
