Fine, I’ll watch it again rather than take a nap.

Do these have a specific name?

I’d like to have some.

Makes me sad that people younger than, say, 30...can’t really appreciate Empire as much as those of us that are even a few years older. It was groundbreaking and influential in so many ways. Everything about it is masterful, as the OP said.

Best of the 9 movies (I'd put Star Wars 2nd). As shocking a revelation as you can get in a movie. NOBODY saw it coming. That scene alone puts it in rare company.

It's the first movie we ever owned on VHS...you had to buy it from a movie rental place and pay the prices they paid the studios as it wasn't commercially released.

$89.99 in the early 80s. That's like $250 today. . Good thing it was a gift. After that it made more sense to own two VCRs and copy tapes.

Anyways, wore that movie out as a kid.

It really, really is.

It is probably the best "blockbuster" film of all time and will be hard to beat. Yes, it stood on the shoulders of Star Wars, but it took its opportunity, swung for the fences and knocked it out of the park.

The individual responsible's internet persona is Harmy. Start your google search there. You may have to use torrents and programs like Handbrake. If you can do that, you can have what Lucas SHOULD have given us - a blu-ray, HD release without all of his navel gazing, revisionist, counter productive bullshite.

He used various releases of DVD, Laserdisc and Blu-ray to "remaster" the original films as best he could. I don't watch any other Star Wars films or any other versions of these films.

And it feels good, man.

Computers made the world of lucas a lazy one.
Its best when he comes up with a story and gtfo to concentrate on real effects, and letting someone else direct.

No. He produced when Kurtz around. Once he left, Lucas plummeted

Easily the best Star Wars movie and probably in my top three of all time.. IMO the best sequel ever made though nearly tied by Godfather 2..

If you're interested, the podcast American innovations has a series about the effects of the movies. Interesting stuff

It’s a great movie by itself regardless of affiliation to the Star Wara saga.

It couldn't exist without BOTH Star Wars and Jedi.

And again, it leaves you hanging at the end, as if there's a "to be continued" graphic, a la BTTF. Maybe that doesn't matter now, decades later, but it sure as shite does when it's 1980, you're 9 years old and you have to wait three years to see what happens.

dude.. Youre in for a treat if you've never gone down the star wars rabbit hole. There's about 4 different versions of empire. You owe it to yourself to find them. (I have them all)

quote:

The Revisited releases differ from the Despecialized Editions in that the goal isn’t just to get as close to the original versions of the film as possible, but to improve them using original photography and effects work.

How as all this done? New models were created for this version of the film, with certain shots “upgraded” significantly using a variety of methods. The aim is to produce something that’s closer to “what the special editions should have been,” according to the official page.

You can check out an extensive list of changes if you’re curious. This is an interpretation of Empire Strikes Back that attempts, as much as possible, to stay true to the original film while “fixing” many of the effects. The color grading has also been adjusted, along with certain fixes for continuity errors.

I remember grabbing the Adywan versions years ago. I even have a side-by-side version that shows both versions of the movie at once so you see all the changes/additions/deletions.

I remember having a bunch of those movie cards made by Topps I think that depict several of those scenes. Great memories.
