And let's not forget that we identified an "alien" from outer space because a country bumpkin couldn't possibly not give a crap about "Barack Husein Obama." Pretty dumb moment tbh.

he also left out the Harry Potter closing joke and only focused on this.

This is exactly what I thought of as I watched it.
Sarcasm [on] off
As strong a first ep as I can remember. Looks to be a hit.
Glad I didn't see the spoiler here. I hate spoilers. What was the spoiler anyway?

Hal identified him because of his clothing at the stadium.

Jesus Christ. can we just stick to the detective comic elements?
Is so much to ask that one fricking show thread sticks to the show and not turn into the poliboard?
The ones who rally for no politics are always the one to turn every thread. it's banal at this point.
I didn't put politics in the show. I would love for them to keep them out. That would definitely make for better entertainment. Completely agree with you.

Did you stop watching before the interrogation scene?

Seems the implication definitely went over one of our heads. Wasn't mine.
But yeah, I'm probably reading too much into James Gunn's political views. It's not like he completely ruined Peacemaker season 2 with them, or Creature Commandoes. Totally unfounded concern. Definitely shouldn't assume it'll be just like multiple other projects he's put out for DC so far.

I mentioned the political elements only. The rest wasn't relevant to the point. And no, the Obama part of the interrogation wasn't the only political part of the interrogation scene or the only part of the interrogation scene that I mentioned.

holy shite, dude. I tried giving you the benefit of the doubt when we talked about actual plot points of the show and how Guy got the ring from Hal, not John.
But good lord. you have answered 4 separate times to try and derail this show thread. im not going to get into your selective viewing answers and derailment agenda. i hope others dont either.
Ive read and enjoyed GL since the 90s. im genuinely excited for this show. Just so you know, Gunn basically had nothing to do with this show. bringing him up just shows your agenda.
I would love to hear more about your thoughts on Garret Dillahunt's casting though. he's obviously meant for us to think he's a villain. I personally thing he's a red herring. but I could be wrong and see him as the black lantern.

He's the head of the studio.

I doubt he's anything more than what we see on the surface: "big fish" militia guy conspiracy theorist who just happens to be right. Here's hoping it's more than that.
You think they'll be bringing Black Lanterns into this? I would be completely shocked if we get deeper than Yellow Lanterns in this first season. Maybe as a "stinger" after the last episode. Also seems like Hal Jordan would be the perfect character to introduce Black Lanterns with, but I doubt they'd do that.

now. this show was in development long before him. Lindelof (who I personally dont care for) was long into development beforehand. There's a reason this show feels like the antithesis of a Gunn production.

that's the thing right? We know Sinestro is involved. so they could do parallax/yellow lanterns. but theres murder and deaths involved. that's black lanterns. what has me excited about the show is to see what threads they choose to pull on. I kind of hope Guy either doesnt end up with the ring or we do get a second lantern. Sinestro reclaiming the ring (hes foretold as the best GL) or Kyle as a surprise would be awesome.
Think the real question is, does Carol Ferris show up?

It started in 1996. Then it went to 2016. Then I went to 2026.
If there was a part in 1986, I missed it.

Well, that's not good, The Watchmen series was a complete dumpster fire.

But it doesn't feel like the antithesis of a Gunn production. You've got some wishful thinking going on.

That would all be exciting, but they reportedly didn't have much of a budget for this so it seems doubtful we're getting any of this in a first season. Hopefully they put together a story that's appealing to comic book fans so we can potentially get some expanded Lantern stories later.
ETA: According to the wiki, James Gunn hired Lindelof to consult on this series after Gunn was hired at WBD. Not seeing where he was involved in this series prior to James Gunn. Are you talking about the closeted gay Alec Scott series that was scrapped? I really hope they're not adapting that script.

I hate injection of political opinions, but it was pretty fair to say its unusual a redneck from Nebraska had no commentary or noticeable reaction about Obama outside of saying he's the 44th president
You ask 90% of the posters about Obama on here and they couldn't hide their disdain.
He was trying to figure out if he was an alien or a real redneck from Nebraska.
ETA:
Also him saying Harry Potter went to fricking Hogwarts when he pinned him against the glass was arguably my favorite line of the show

I honestly don't remember what the first year was. Was just going off what someone else said.

This would be about the extent of what I'd expect most people who couldn't care less about the president to say in a police interrogation. I'd have probably just said he's the president, and I'd bet most would do the same. If anything, the odd part was saying what number president he was.

This was funny.

Lindelof would have told Gunn to F off and I'm out if he wanted any type of legit control over this project. Lindelof is one of the best writers in the business and Chris Mundy and Tom King have nice resume's (outside of Mundy being one of the writers for Night Country
