do they insinuate Hal himself is racist or just a white guy that got it over a black guy?
the whole thing was something someone thought was clever but is actually really dumb
-Yes, they probably do ignore race as they likely view earthlings/humans as 1 race/species.
-"You can't ask a black man in this country if he's scared!" Ok so what should they ask him "are you afraid of anything other than systemic racism???"
There are better ways to write it if you're deadset on going that path but again they'd rather scream the message at you to leave 0 doubt
Also, why did it have to be john? You had 2 other kids, maybe you could have increased your odds by raising them all to be sociopaths.
Why were they running out of diamond money for his training? It seemed to mostly entail him shooting apples off of people's heads and being dropped off in a shite neighborhood to walk home. That all seems pretty cheap. Did they both retire to focus on training him 24/7?
shite episode but hopefully it gets back on track next week as the main plot is advanced

the leftist folks on twitter including the official DC podcast host herself said he is racist. there is also a line in the show where Hal mockingly calling the Stewarts "Midwest Huxtables" so that's apparently intended to be racist also

They claim he was an undeserving lantern because the only reason he didn't feel fear was due to while privilege. Literally said that

Then Hal made a veiled racist comment calling them the midwest huxtables.
I'm really not one to let myself get wrapped around the axle on some subtle progressive themes in a show or movie if its otherwise entertaining, but this was really forced and took away from the episode in a big way.
Then afterwards reading about the writers behind the episode, it makes sense. This is their identity - race politics.
Which is racist in itself.

Pretty accurate depiction of that type of person nowadays. The writing is so on the nose that it is an accurate representation which is ironic.

The Midwest Huxtables thing wasn't racist or even an insult. The Cosby Show ruled television at the time. It's actually a compliment considering they were a successful upper middle class black family in Brooklyn. Doctor, lawyer, smart kids. Is there a comparable depiction of black families like them on television nowadays? Black-ish, maybe. Black people are almost exclusively portrayed as victims by Hollywood today.

The ring is sexist because it didn't pick the child abusing psychopath and racist because it picked Hal Jordan.

Well, they're dumb. They've bought into the narrative the show is pushing that white people and Hal are racists. I fail to see how comparing a successful black nuclear family, Mom, Dad, three well-behaved kids, to a beloved tv show family is somehow a problem. The show was lauded as being a fine example of the sort of black experience that wasn't normally depicted. A show like Good Times was a ghetto struggle.

The Green Lantern was my favorite comic book character growing up. They’ve completely ruined it for me. This show is a steaming pile of garbage.

I liked the first 2 episodes but they just couldn’t resist whitey bad on episode 3. Which is shame but I just skipped through most of it. This could also be a problem with having different directors for each episode of shows which I know has been a thing for a while now but it creates shows that seem very uneven. One week an episode is great the next it’s shite

This just doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe years on when a show is established, but not to begin with. I would want one unifying vision and it’s only like 8-10 episodes now. I don’t get it.
