I got the Black Friday deal for Peacock. $20 for the year.

I heard good things about The Day of the Jackal. I’m 6 episodes in and it’s really good so far. I think it’s 10 episodes. Like the movies, the Jackal is an international assassin. The series follows a MI6 agent’s pursuit of the Jackal.

Eddie Redmayne is the Jackal. I wasn’t sure if he would work, but he definitely does. I highly recommend it. Most of the episodes are out and the finale airs on December 12th.

I was turned off from the show since I really hated the character Redmayne played in Fantastic Beasts, might have to tune in now.

I thought he wouldn’t fit the role, but he plays it well. Very reserved, which is what you would expect from a successful assassin.

Great book and great movie in 1973. Bruce Willis' '97 version The Jackal wasn't as good. What made the book and original movie great was the underlying political conflict, where veterans of the war in Algiers thought Charles Degall had sold them out. This one race/sex swaps the police lead and removes the political background and time period. I would rather watch The Killer again.

Is this the same character as the movie The Jackal?

That book showed you how to get a fake ID and build a new identity ( pre-computer/internet)

Spoiler

I quit watching after the 6th episode because they had to ruin it with a gay scene. These Hollywood fricks just can’t help themselves and it was such a random scene that doesn’t blend with how the show was going.

If anyone wants a good old movie try The Battle of Algiers. It's on Max.

How does it not blend with the show? Think about why he did it.

Also - this show would be one of the most talked about in the country if not for being on peacock. Redmayne has been fantastic.

Watched the last 2 episodes last night. Fantastic series. Somewhat surprising ending. Can’t wait for the next season.

I agree; it showed the lengths to which he'd go to get the mark. It wasn't as explicit as most of the stuff on The Boys, or in a few other series I've read about here.

This made me think of the scene in The Americans where the two leads KGB spies were forced to perform sex acts on ugly people as part of their training since they would be expected to trade sex for secrets on their job.

It's solid for sure.

The Agency is better though. Really great series on Paramount + with great cast.

He's gay for business purposes. It's a set-up. The dude is the guy who helped the Jackal find his phone at the assassination venue.

I never got that far, but that sounds similar to the forced humiliation in the Sparrow.

Bruce Willis pretended to be gay in the movie.
