The Conners is like the Star Wars sequels... I just pretend it never happened.

This the same series that brought Dan back from the dead for it's revival. Bringing the show back and preying on people's stupid nostalgia just for a quick buck is also uncreative.

A lot of people would praise this show because it would tackle issues that face middle American families.

Opioid addiction is one of those things, but now all of a sudden it's uncreative and lame.

Whats funny is the huge amount of press saying "this is a better show now" and stuff like "Roseanne is the best it's ever been, without Roseanne"

More proof of fake news, I really want to see the ratings

This is in the same category as late-run All In the Family / Archie Bunker's Place, where Edith is dead and Mike lost his mind and ran out on his family to live in a commune. No thanks.

It hasn't been said in this thread, but ABC likely has guaranteed the contract of every actor on the show. They either pay them to do nothing or pay them to make a show.

Last nights episode will probably be decent since people likely just tuned in to see how the handled the Rosanne situation, but I bet they fall off a cliff in a week or two.

Episode was pretty terrible. Dan can't carry the show on his own the the ancillary characters aren't great.

She should get another show.

Or move in as a neighbor to the Mike Baxter named... Rosie or something like that. She could live across the street from Helen Potts. Or date Ed.

ow the heck do you tackle ODing as a joking topic in the current climate? I imagine that being so cringeworthy

You knew they would bash her for what she said about Valerie Jarrett.

I feel bad for John Goodman.

He didn't have to do the show. He could have and should have said no.

To be fair, that's also what happened when the show premiered for the revival. It maintained good ratings but the fall off was big and that was expected. So seeing a big fall off next week won't mean a whole lot, you will need 4-5 weeks worth of ratings to see where it levels off at and compare that to last year.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

All of the actors are sitting on guaranteed contracts (which I'm fine with, they had to lure some of them away from lucrative offers) and suddenly your lead does something and gets fired. You can either pay the rest of the actors to sit at home (because there is no way Hollywood veterans like Goodman and Laurie Metcalf walk away from 300k an episode with at least 10 episodes guaranteed) or you can try and find some way to recoup some of your losses.

It was doomed before they tried it but right now ABC is just trying to ride the contracts out and not take a total bath on the season.

The show premiered to 10.5 million viewers, according to Entertainment Weekly. That's on par with analyst projections, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and above half of the "Roseanne" premiere, which debuted to 18.2 million viewers for its hour-long premiere in March.

The real question is can they keep that audience. The week 2 and 3 ratings will be more interesting.

Feels super empty without Rosanne so far.

She was certainly a large presence. (is it too early for fat jokes?)

ABC royally fricked themselves on this and much of the cast was right there with them so I feel no pity.

They should've recast the character with Louie Anderson in drag. He's money on Baskets.

No I wouldn't. That's shark-jumping range, the time I always know a series has been on too long.

Pure curiosity.

They'll be lucky to get 1/3 those numbers going forward.

I never watched that crap, or Grace Under Fire either. All of the "proud to be white trash" shows (mostly reality nowadays) are a crime against humanity.

But growing up watching sitcoms, I always knew they were past their expiration when they started "tackling important issues."

For example, I always liked Different Strokes, but I never wanted Dudley to get rammed in the arse by an old white man. I liked The Jeffersons, but never wanted to hear the kid from Witch Mountain talk about people's "n---r lips."

Family ties, it was Alex's speed addiction and uncle Tom Hanks drinking the alcoholic cherry juice. Facts of Life - Abortion.

When it turns into a PSA, it's over.
