Can you explain the connection? Maybe I don't understand the definition of racism.

There are many types of racism.

Stealing culture of the marginalized is a single, specific type of racism.

Of course, the worse this movie does, the more convinced they'll be that this just PROVES how misogynistic society is and we're just not ready for such a powerful story! It's clearly ahead of its time!

You have this backwards.

Most normal people seem to understand this movie failed b/c the movie was shite, not because of the implied message.

The neo-SJWs are the ones focusing on the feminism.

No, it isn’t. That’s called appropriation, and it has nothing to do with race. But nobody can steal a culture from another. They can mimic, borrow, but they can’t outright take something which is a shared and learned set of beliefs and values.

Racism is the belief, an idea that a specific set of genetic indicators are a sign of superiority over others.

I am obviously talking about those promoting this as some great vision or piece of art to be admired . Good grief.

"Stealing" culture creates the marginalization as it reduces groups to specific elements, so you are correct.

I concede.

When the appropriation is from a specific race, especially if due to societal externalities of racism, it 100% becomes a subset of racism.

That being imposed in a large scale presents the conditions where appropriation becomes part of that structural racism.

This is the literal point of Sinners

I guess the overlapped Venn Diagram of avid feminists, Frankenstein afficionados, and musical enthusiasts is lower than hoped.

+1 I watched it yesterday. It's not a musical at all. I'm not sure who started that narrative

That said, if we want to talk good feminist horror Companion (2025)

Yes! One of my favorite films last year. What Hollywood needs to understand again is that great films earn the right to deliver a message. The message, however noble it might seem, does not earn a bad film a pass. Make quality films and I’ll be there for it. Not the crap.

Or discriminating against an individual on the basis of race

Those 2 were the definition of racism in the vernacular until about 15-20 years ago

Now ethnic discrimination is considered racism, race be damned

And it can only be racism if you are white, because {fabricated power dynamics justification but really just Marxism}

And calling to eliminate "whiteness" is fine

As an old co-worker once told me: Just nothing means nothing anymore

Cultural appropriation used to be called something different when I was a kid

Assimilation

That is bad now, apparently

Release the Gyllenhaal cut!

#TheBride: Maggie Gyllenhaal’s maximalist, romantic gothic horror taking the iconic story from Mary Shelley of Frankenstein and creating a Joker: Folie à Deux energy in here that works as it grapples with the feminine lens that crafted this original tale. When I saw the film last year I was blown away by it, it was poetic, human, and felt transformative because it plays with the history around the character in a way that I thoroughly enjoyed…which makes me very bummed to say the theatrical cut is not the version of the film I loved so much. From what appears to be a new edit, including reshoots, & added voice over that all seems intent to strip any nuance or subtlety out of it. So much of the film still comes through in the theatrical version but it doesn’t land as deftly as before. I still think it’s a massive swing, looks gorgeous, and is a ton to fun. I hope we get Maggie’s director cut at some point…

Also, wouldn't "feminist horror" be "Leave it to Beaver"?
