Every time I watch The Boys it makes me wonder if I should check out Banshee. Seems like a premise that I would enjoy. And Starr is so good in this I feel like I almost owe it to him to check out the show.
Caught E4 over the weekend. Holy shite, what a rollercoaster.
Anthony Starr is so great. I do think he's overusing the face twitch thing this season though. It used to be subtle and it worked amazingly, but this season it seems like he honed in on it and does it every few seconds when he's on screen.
But he's an absolute sociopath when it comes to tormenting humans. It's no different than a kid burning ants with a magnifying glass in terms of the absolute disregard for how below-him humans are. The difference is that he also gets off on embarrassing people and killing them in publicly horrific ways. Even understanding why he felt how he did about the people in that basement, it was still tough to watch (and I mean that in a good way).
A Train is definitely going to be killed by Homelander soon IMO.
I agree with whoever it was that said that it was hard to see Starlight show any emotion because her face doesn't move. She was upset and if her eyes weren't welling up with tears you would've had no idea she was even upset.
I do also wish they would focus a little more on Ryan so we can see how he develops, since I assume he will be the one who ultimately kills HL (unless a V'd up Butcher sacrifices himself to do it with help from Ryan). But like someone said, that could be because the Ryan kid actor sucks. Who knows. But either way, if they intend on him being the one to do it, they'll need to expound on that a good bit before we get to that point.
I do feel like this season is dragging a little in terms of advancing toward killing Homelander. That has to be the ultimate endgame for the series, and last season focused SO HARD on killing him but it seems like all of that has taken a back seat to side stories this season (Starlight's public back and forth with ole girl, the political side with the superhero bill, Hughie's dad, Frenchie's gayness, Sage's plots, etc.). And not that those are even bad at all, it just seems like there is a lack of focus on dealing with Homelander in favor of those subplots. I mean shite, there are only 8 episodes in the season and we are already halfway through. shite needs to advance really soon.
But I still love the show and am with it until the end.

Honestly at this point I kind of half wonder if the series ends with Homelander "winning" and ruling over a desolated planet, doomed to grow old and die alone (though I suppose he could fly himself into the sun or something extreme). Though even as fast as he is, it'd probably take him weeks to get to the Sun at best, most likely months.
But considering that Homelander is unlikely to ever commit suicide, even in the most depressing of times, he'd just be the lord of a ruined planet, all alone.

The ladies of Banshee need their own thread. NSFW
And Job is how you properly write a gay cross dresser in a show and make it work.

As I was watching the ridiculous ice skating rehearsal, I wondered if the writers appreciated the irony while they were laughing hysterically about the lyrics in the writing room. Just two episodes earlier, they depicted a right wing circle jerk conspiracy convention, where every ridiculous right wing notion of the left was on full display. Meanwhile, the show writers were having their own circle jerk depicting every ridiculous notion about the right.

Starlight is the real villain in this show. Change my mind.
What has she done that's villainous? She bullied a competitor when she was 13 and recently had an abortion. Is there something else?

As stated, the Deep and Sage are hilarious.
Am I wrong for wanting to absolutely destroy the poon of Ashley Barrett?
She's probably the most low key dangerous person to the 7. She collects all their secrets and no one takes her seriously.

The writers are making fun of the Right and there's zero subtext or (in their minds) irony.
Look, I'm conservative but even I can see some of the shite on this show is pretty tuned into the current MAGA zeitgeist. After I saw episode three, I was fairly convinced the writers got pretty much all of their material off our very own poli-board.
This show has brought our anonymous political rantings to life. In alot of respects, the way this show portrays MAGA is how MAGA often comes off.

I don't get how people can still say it makes fun of both sides when the only criticism I can really remember is corporations/celebrities pretending to care about a cause or current event.
I was fine with it at first, the show was still enjoyable, but the writing has gotten so lazy they're using political discourse as a crutch. There are some great episodes and stretches to the point the show was living up to the hype but that seems like forever ago now. It's basically just a long SNL skit with gore and violence with the subtleness of a sledgehammer to get their political views across.

It’s not gotten lazy, Kripke is not happy that people aren’t getting the point so he’s done trying to be somewhat subtle in his view. What’s funny is everybody gets it but the majority of people just didn’t care because the characters were still being written with layers and depth. That seems to be changing rapidly this season.

I keep waiting for her to get some form of subtle yet devious revenge on the 7. Ultimately it will probably still mean she ends up dead, but I think it could be a really good turn to see it happen (her revenge).

Deep and Sage are the couple this show needed. I’ll let you in the back door while we watch the Kim and Ray J vid…. That was something.
That's like couple goals right there. Not my first viewing selection but I'm down with Lady's choice. Better than watching a Bond film.

It doesn't make fun of both sides, not even close. In fact it's a full frontal assault on the Right and more specifically MAGA.
The writing hasn't at all gotten lazy. Just because it's shockingly lopsided in it's politics, doesn't mean the writing is bad. In fact, the writing has framed MAGA pretty well. The show in some ways has put MAGA in front of a mirror. The same sorta dialogue and political language they give the Right on that show can be taken straight from our own poli-board.
And I'll take it a step further. The writing on this show is so elegantly simple, that it's managed to take the same sorta shite we say to each other and say it right back to us, and what we're finding is that we don't care for it all that much. .

just when you think you have seen it all. You people will make anything woke or political. you should see your way to the poli board.

Almost as full of shite as you calling yourself “conservative”, but you do you. The Boys is just leftists taking their shots like 90% of all Hollywood productions these days. It’s not clever. It’s cheap shock, rip-offs of better ideas and political attacks.

See what I mean.
That's the problem with the MAGA flock and what this show has captured so well is the pure frickin' meanness that springs from it. If MAGA scripture, as written by the Orange Christ isn't followed to the letter, then the knives come out.
And yeah, you're right. It is indeed the Left taking shots and MAGA has supplied the ammo. Only a self deluded a-hole can't see that the entire Right bashing script was taken off our very own conservative discussion boards. shite man, it's our language and political rantings that give them their script.
And if the writing lampooned the Left with the same acuity and sniper like accuracy they're lampooning MAGA, we would all be talking about how brilliant it is.
MAGA has its own persona and this show has nailed it.

I don't know, I'm conservative about most things, but I think the over the top absurdity is pretty amusing. It uses satire as a blunt instrument. Most of it is so obviously caricature that there's no reason to take it seriously. Just because the showrunner's politics are wacko lefty doesn't mean the show can't be enjoyed for what it is.
