You’re upset. That movie really wanted to deliver a message, it just had none.

The Joker film was hot garbage, regardless of Phoenix’s performance

So thank god we’re getting a new joker.

First, definitely disagree that the movie was "hot garbage" - it's a very good movie. It's just not a superhero/supervillain movie. The movie is more akin to Taxi Driver than Batman.

Second, I don't think Phoenix was ever meant to be the Joker for other movies. Joker is very much a standalone story. The Batman was originally meant as a vehicle for Ben Affleck's Batman that got rewritten when he stepped away after the lack of success of SvB and Justice League.

Movie was fantastic. Loved the vibe that it portrayed on the streets of Gotham and in the iceberg lounge. Also loved this different take with an in depth story involving a lot of Gotham’s mobsters. Hopefully in the next one we can see joker at his most chaotic. Maybe penguin and the Black mask could be trying to fill the power vacuum that was left as well? I’m very excited on the direction with Patterson and Reeves!

The movie had the best Batman suit out of any of the movies, easily.

It had the worst characterization of Bruce Wayne out of any of the movies though.

The emo/goth Bruce Wayne was simply a poor choice.

I enjoyed the movie overall though. The Riddler was good, as were his plans.

Definitely recommend.

This movie did the best showing Bruce Wayne as broken emotionally. Bale's Wayne didn't even seem like his parents dying affected him at all.

It is fine to portray him as emotionally broken, just don’t have him look like the gay brother in Wedding Crashers.

He looked like he was a few mins away from cutting his wrists throughout the whole movie.

The thing about Batman is that Bruce is the alter ego.

He is the mask, not the other way around.

he was too pissed off to that to himself. he wanted to inflict as much pain as possible to the criminals of Gotham. even if it meant his life, but he's too smart to succumb to that.

also, him being that way was part of the story arc. i'm sure he'll come around in the sequels.

I kinda agree with this but I like that they tried to switch it up slightly and it didn’t completely bomb. But I feel like they could have went with this goth Wayne but scaled it back a little.

Exactly. This is early days Bruce. He doesn't know how to be batman/Wayne just yet. He's a recluse here, and I'm sure the sequels will show a much more confident Bruce. I think he'll be more along the lines of Pattinson’s character in Tenet.

I think y’all are kinda misinterpreting what I’m saying.

I don’t mind the brooding, emotionally broken Bruce.

Just don’t make him look like he is a goth kid.

It would fit the look if he started throwing his bangs around saying “gosh” like the goth kids on South Park.

But the movie did a great job of portraying that. Alfred even told him so much so.

but the thing is - he has only been Batman for about 2 years in the film, so he is still a kid.

my wife was not a big fan of this Bruce, but the way I looked at it was - he is a young kid that doesn't give a shite about anyone, especially himself......Until he almost loses Alfred.

to me it seems like Pattinson is the young Bruce, and Affleck is the old Bruce - like i could almost see them tied together (if they wanted to in continuity - which they don't).

I just finished the movie today and absolutely loved it. I don't have any comments that haven't already been said. I just had this one thought throughout; did Gordon ever figure out anything himself. It seemed like he immediately asked Batman for assistance at every turn. I was trying to remember a moment in the movie where he actually helped the investigation. I know he helped Batman in his interactions with the GCPD, but he didn't really do anything to catch Riddler. I could be forgetting something, though.

Family and I just finished it. We all agree it wasn’t bad. Just not as good as the previous series.
