Dark Knight trilogy destroyed this new Batman movie. Decent movie but doesn’t touch dark Knight

The more I think about it, the more I have to say you really can’t compare the two. It’s like trying to compare ‘89/‘08/‘22. All 3 are different in terms of styles. As much as I liked TDK over the years, I prefer how dark and gritty The Batman is. It’s so dark it makes TDK look like a Marvel movie. And that’s fine with me. I can still enjoy both.

The score.
The intensity.
The darkness.
The smudgy cinematography.

It’s what a Batman movie should be imo.

Just saw it last night and really enjoyed it!

As a certified MCU movie-enjoyer, it was refreshing to see a superhero movie that wasn't chock full of jokes. It still had some humor (penguin waddling around comes to mind).

I was a fan of how grounded it felt. Aside from maybe the scene where Batman jumps from the police building in the glider I can see how most of that movie was shot sans-CGI (gunfights notwithstanding).

I'll wait a bit before ranking this among other Batman movies and will enjoy it for what it is- a good detective flick with Bruce finding out who he really needs to become to save Gotham.

Have they come out and said DCEU is dead? The mini-preview they had for the other movies come out look enjoyable but in a completely different universe compared to Battinson

Finally had an opportunity to see it tonight and thought that it was absolutely great. The only miscast I think that was made was John Tuturo as Falcone. I just didn't buy him as an intimidator. Otherwise, the detective aspects here were really well done.

My only real nitpick is that I didn't like how much time Batman spent with the GCPD. Way too much exposure so early on for him to remain an intimidating, secretive figure.

Saw it this weekend. I liked everything about it. The acting, score, and oh man the production design was just top notch. I would rank it neck and neck with TDK but the production design was my favorite of all the films. I'll need to watch it a few more time to see if the story really holds up.

The only thing that I took some issue with was that the Riddler seemed to be going after the corrupt leadership and exposing said corruption as a form of vengeance. But in the final act he just murders hundreds of innocent people and tries to kill mayoral candidate that so far hasnt been proven to be part of this corruption.

I know the guy is loon but I thought it was interesting how he compared himself to Batman acting like just another vigilante. Examining the juxtaposition of those two made the interrogation scene cool but when he went full on mass murderer it became less so. I enjoyed the finale for the the shear spectacle and I get how it provides the push for batman to cross the apex of his story arc. I just preferred the Riddler as more of diabolical and violent vigilante than what he became in the final act.

Wow. I thought he was one of the best parts of the film.

I thought he was great in Quiz Show, was decent in Transformers, was good in O, Brother, Where Art Thou? I’m just too used to seeing him in bumbling roles and I just didn’t buy him here.

I did like him as Billy Martha n in The Bronx is Burning.

It’s really hard to compare to TDK, because stylistically they are just so different. Even the way it’s shot and scored. I really enjoyed it and Inalso really enjoyed TDK trilogy as well. I’d say it’s at least on par.

This Batman was definitely a darker, less tech driven adaptation. There is no playboy Bruce Wayne as you saw in TDK. He’s truly tortured by not only the state of the city but also his own actions.

Dano is a brilliant actor and perfect for the Riddler role, and anybody who has seen The Killing of a Sacred Deer knows that Barry Keoghan is going to play this Joker to perfection.

So I’ve rewatched the Batman, and I don’t know how this went over my head, but the journalist Thomas Wayne accidentally got killed was Thomas Elliot. While that’s not Hush’s father’s name in the comics, that’s clearly setting up Hush as the main villain in the next film, regardless of Joker’s laugh at the end, especially since the Riddler is already around. Hush may have been even the Bigger Bad in this film just watching to see what Batman would do.

Want to see Court of Owls in the sequel. I can see it would be perfect fit to Pattinson's Batman verse

Comic was so trippy

Joker’s laugh at the end
frick another joker portrayal..

Wish they'd have changed a few things around to where the Joaquin Phoenix film was cannon with this story. Have it take place in the 90s since it was such a big influence anyways..Not even needing him to make an appearance in the newer film, maybe just referenced..just no more new jokers when you have a fine one currently.

The Joker film was hot garbage, regardless of Phoenix’s performance

So thank god we’re getting a new joker.

Edward Elliot was the journalist. Which I believe to be the father of Thomas, but frankly that’s a little too much, imo, every villain shouldn’t be connected to Thomas Wayne, but it feels they are going in that direction.

Well Hush’s relationship to Thomas Wayne is integral to his character far more so than any other Batman villain (barring possibly Joe Chill). It would be the last time I bring up a villain with a relationship to Thomas Wayne though.

Wow, good catch. Was it the word "Hush" scrawled across a picture of his face that made you make that connection?

Now that’s just stupid. When you really think about it, it wasn’t all that dark and gritty. Just smoke and mirrors

Can the fanboys at least admit that the joker cameo at the end was god awful. Felt like a shitty scene you’d see on a CW show

That scene needed to be cut. I don't think anyone is denying that. It looks like studio interference to me
