"The Americans" on FX. I just finished the series finale. SPOILERS. Thoughts?

**Spoilers**
So I binged it over the past month or so.
Really enjoyed the show, and the human side of things regarding Elizabeth and Philips work/family life.
People here that watched the show through, what was your thoughts on the finale?
I totally didn't see it coming when Paige hopped off the train, basically ditching her parents who were headed back to Russia.
Philip and Elizabeth were such bad people, I wanted Stan Beeman to bust their arse, or even kill them.
But I suppose the parents having to abandon their kids and go back to shitty Russia to live out a miserable existence was an even worse punishment.
Is that how you all interpreted it?

You could tell Paige didn't have it in her and she loved Henry too much to leave him behind. I don't think Stan would let them prosecute her. Overall I enjoyed it

I agree.
What do you make of the fate of Philip and Elizabeth?
Is having to abandon their kids and move back to shitty Soviet Union their "life sentence" as a punishment?
Philip definitely enjoyed "being American" and all the things an upper middle class American lifestyle provided.

The scene in the garage was one of the most intense scenes I’ve ever seen.
I felt about Phillip and Elizabeth like i did about Tony Soprano, i was “rooting” for the FBI to bust them but I knew it would never happen
The ending was near perfect for the show, yeah it’s sucks they never answer for their terrible crimes but they lost everything that mattered

Was Stan's girlfriend KGB? I liked that we never got resolution on that.

Stan and Oleg are the ones that really get screwed. Though I’m pretty convinced Renee is not KGB, it doesn’t make sense to me that they would keep her with him for 3 years after he quit counter intelligence

I liked Oleg, but his pride/stubbornness did him in.
He was caught in America, with a wife and kid back home, and he refused to help himself to get back home to see them.

Couldn’t disagree more. He was doing what he thought was best for his country and the world. He was willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of his family

No, you ARE right. I don't disagree with you.
I just hated seeing his story end like that. His sacrifice was in vain.

How would you feel about them if they were Americans in Moscow in a show called the Russians?

Differently for sure, but I think I would still find killing innocent civilians wrong regardless. I hope so anyway

He committed numerous homicides including innocent by standers. Even Phillip thinks he’s an awful person

The murder of legitimately innocent people was wrong no matter what country they did it for.

Philip had more of a conscious than Elizabeth (who was a total robot killing/fricking machine).
But he still committed atrocities.

You just condemned a shite ton of people in the military and intelligence community. Sure you want to be that pure in your morality?

Dude, we're talking about a tv show. I was answering your question...

I always thought Elizabeth was just a true believer. She believed in the cause of Communism. Philip I thought was a high achiever type of “alpha” who got the best job he could to get out of his home town. If he was born in the US he probably works on Wall Street or something but in the USSR the KGB in probably the most prestigious exciting job available.

What's the difference? Are you saying your judgments of good and bad only matter when it's fantasy?
