CSB time:
I was involved in this in 91-92. I don't believe it was CDG, but it was the exact same playbook. I was a teenager and wanted to buy a car for my upcoming senior year of high school. We had no money, there was no other way I was getting a car unless I got a job. Saw an ad in the newspaper to make like $10 or $15 an hour. I can't remember but it was big bucks for me at that time. At first you just call people and ask for money and usually you get denied especially someone new at it. The guys that I worked with were basically like the guys I just saw in this first episode. I remember at one point the dude running the room kept disappearing into another back room. Once we became cool he offered me some crack. I did not take him up on it but I did start selling him a bag of weed about once per week
There was a flamboyant gay guy which was strange to me as I really hadn't met someone like that, up close and personal before, but he was actually really cool and started telling me the secrets of the telemarketing trade. There was definitely a couple of ex-cons. We were doing the Jefferson Parish Fraternal Order of Police among many others. At some point I started saying, "this is Officer..." and the donations started flowing and I bought my car within a few months. You start getting bonus money when you hit big numbers and at one point, I was #1 in the room for a bit. I only worked there for about a year but it was fricking wild and I made some pretty good money. We would set up a driver to go pick up the money that night that we got them to commit. They would put a freaking check and some folks put cash in the mailbox. This slimey dude would go and scoop it up and we got paid fast. I even remember getting a pink slip lead with my aunt and uncle and they donated. I felt terrible about it, so I told them after and gave them their money back out of my own pocket
shite is a total scam and terrible. They preyed on cons and kids to make them millions. I didn't want to watch the show at first, but once I finally tuned in I was waiting to see if they showed our building in Metry. We had to be affiliated or something because everything they're saying we did too.

I watched the first episode earlier in the week.
On accident, I answered two telemarketers in the past 48 hours. I was much kinder and courteous to them. I did not want to end up in a “Book of Vengeance”.

I may have to check this out based on this thread.
How is stuff like this even remotely legal? It’s scamming people out of money by lying about what you’re collecting it for. Is that not fraud in its almost most basic form?

Watched the first episode just now. Super interesting shite. I’m curious as to where the cliffhanger takes us in the next one. I assume some sort of organized crime insinuation?

I think it’s police union/dirty former cops who are getting major kickbacks from CDG to look the other way.

It’s amazing that dude filmed everything like that at the time.
You don’t want to know how gross the charity underworld is
My old coworker was busted for scamming people when he created a charity for autism because his son had it. They caught him keeping 97% of the donations and buying cars and vacation homes.

I laughed hysterically when the dude said this. And his house looks like it is your run of the mill 3 bedroom 2 bath 1200 square foot house in Phoenix or Vegas.
I also laugh every time the Patrick guy says "this is Patrick J. Pepsas" and he emphasizes the "J" part.

This doc is a really interesting little time period. Right before the smartphone/social media craze. Filming everything wasn't that common back then, relatively speaking, and even if you did, not many people would see ever see or care about the footage. A decade later everyone films everything, and broadcasts it for the world to see.

Also the guy working from home
holy shite, the things he would say when he lost a potential customer. Guy is an absolute psycho still.

He's killing it!

The guy working from the street who got a number off the side of a truck is the one who was killing it not the murderer working from home.

Definitely a dip in quality in E2 from E1, but I still enjoyed it.
I loved the Captain Acura dude's response to when they asked him if he was worried about cracking down on the industry. "I've been hearing that since 1992."

So what do you guys think happened to Pat?
Posted on 8/22/23 at 9:01 pm to Peter167
There is occasionally something I watch on TV that makes me feel like I need to take a shower but this doc makes me feel like I should soak in bleach for an hour before taking a shower. The last thing I remember that hit me like that is Dope Sick Love.
Just rating it against quality docs it is a big loser but the rawness of the footage makes up for it in many ways. I have the urge to cut it off every few minutes not because it is so poorly done but because it is so grimy and infuriating which is the point.

i don't know what this says about me but i've worked on sales floors where pretty much everyone has moments like that guy.
"great i got to call this cheap frick again
'hey this is Dire Wolf, how have you been? ....oh you know just living the dream. About that project'
fricking cocksucker cheap mother fricker never sends a PO "
