Yeah this is a weird melt.

I'm melting?

I said the episode was weird and then called the dude out for complaining about the Sam calling out the Nigerian government and somehow tying China to it. I liked that part of the episode.

I've melted before, this ain't it.

He’s funny but the on set pregame show is a little over the top Nobody would talk like that and keep their job. Plus they would do test screenings and nobody would take a d2 college football coach and hire him to a team in the most prestigious soccer league in the world. you just have to accept some of the stuff on the show even if it isnt realistic

I was kind of thinking they were going to have him get yanked from that broadcast but have such a fanbase that he starts up his own soccer podcast (at the behest of the girlfriend) to modernize the whole thing a bit

Imagine Roy Kent doing 60 second ad reads for Dude Wipes

We've now seen him cursing on the show shtick twice and I hope they don't keep going back to that well.

Roy is tGOAT but I'm not sure what direction his character is heading. Maybe coaching a professional club? Would be awesome to see him coaching against AFC Richmond.

I believe that Roy Kent's character is modeled off of Roy Keane IRL. While Keane probably hasn't popped off on camera to the extent Kent has, his on air persona (and actual persona) really is that of a world class dick.

I don’t think they’re even comparable. Isn’t Sam supposed to be Nigerian royalty? Either way, him standing up for his country being raped is a little different than the fake woke bullshite going on here.

I thought it was a great episode. The Led Tasso gig was supposed to be over the top. They were supposed to see through it.

Well the issue here is that the argument is always built around “I hate politics in my sports. Doesn’t matter what politics it is, that’s not what I watch sports for”

Now I think most people realize that people only get upset about these things when they conflict with something they believe or care about directly, but still it’s a badge of honor for the people who melt about these type of things happening in sports. So we either have to finally admit that isn’t true or we can highlight the hypocrisy there.

Getting upset about pronouns and voter laws and perceived mistreatment by law enforcement that has no basis in reality is completely different than calling out your government for taking bribe money from a company that is shitting all over your homeland and calling out that company itself.

I’m not some hippy environmentalist but I’m not going to wear the logo of and do ads for a company that is polluting the hell out of my neck woods either, especially when they have clear alternatives to what they are doing.

I mostly agree that there’s a difference there, but again my point is that a lot of people shielded behind the logic that “it’s not about the cause, it’s about the entertainment and purity of the sport. Leave politics out of it”. The reality is people want opposing politics out of their sports, not all politics. I’m fine with everyone admitting that finally, but you can’t really have your cake and eat it too with that

Seeking approval from some 13yo kid was a little strange. They apparently lost to a really horrible team at home they were big favorites to beat. That should be inexcusable for a professional team. Don't mind the rest of the plot.

Not sure if he was seeking approval from her directly but felt better after receiving it. I think he was simply acting on the criticism from his father.

This is another nitpick that falls under the entire shows premise, which you have to buy into to watch the show. This isn’t going to be a realistic portrayal of a locker room, or coaching, or even soccer. You’re just gonna have to let that stuff go

Now I think a more apt criticism of the plot is that Ted Lasso pulls his best player aside to tell him he won’t add Jamie, and then literally the next day he adds Jamie (seemingly never telling Sam beforehand). Which flies in the face of everything we’ve seen of his coaching style so far

I think this a direct result of his talk with the doc... doctor.

The team has had 8 straight ties, but everyone was happy amd got along. They had a nice a non-toxic environment but it wasn't necessarily the best thing for fielding a more competitive team. Everyone was complacent.

Bring Jaime back provides a jolt to the system. As someone else pointed out, just the thought of him coming back led to a more competitive practice the very next day. Plus, Ted realizes that Jaime is a product of his upbringing and decides to give him another chance after talking with Sam.

So really Sam has himself to blame if he is unhappy... lol

I don’t think I made my point clear, I understand why he decided to bring Jamie back, but he essentially lied to Sam’s face and never had a conversation about it to him.

So I’m not saying the decision to bring Jamie back is the thing that doesn’t make sense, I’m saying the way Lasso handled it doesn’t make sense.

I hope it didn't happen that way and during the episode it certainly didn't feel that Sam held any animosity towards Coach Lasso. It is possible that his talk with Sam before bringing Jamie in ended up on the cutting room floor and will be featured in 10 years when they release the "extended version" of Ted Lasso.

Side note: so many things make more sense after watching the extended versions of "The Office."

Yeah, I mean I get what they were going for, and maybe there is a deleted scene that shows that, but that’s a bad editing cut if it is one

The office example makes sense because they were fitting into 20 minute TV time slots, but Ted Lasso doesn’t have to worry about that

Indeed, unless it shows up in a later episode. I love/hate having to wait 7 days between episodes.

I think there’s quite a difference between the completely fabricated “oppression” US athletes like LeBitch and Rapinoe go on about vs Sam’s native country being completely corrupt and being destroyed by an oil company.

If after the past year and a half you haven’t woken up to the fact that corrupt, powerful corporations and people run the world I don’t know what to tell you. I had no issue with what they did this episode, glad Sam told Dubai Air to frick off.

On the other hand, LeHairline and Rapinoe are the puppets for those same greedy, corrupt corporations.
