It’s a “Task” and “Mare of Easttown” crossover.

Julianne Nicholson has joined Season 2 of the HBO detective drama, reprising her Emmy-winning role as Lori Ross, the mother of three children who lives in Easttown.

While, until now, “Task” was not directly connected to “Mare of Easttown,” both series hail from creator and showrunner Brad Ingelsby and take place in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia.

It’s unclear how, exactly, Nicholson’s character will factor into the storyline of “Task.” The vague Season 2 logline reads as follows: “Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo) takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it is to tell who’s the target.”

Aside from Ruffalo, Nicholson joins previously announced Season 2 cast members Mahershala Ali, Harry Melling, Adam Nagaitis, Aminah Nieves and Edgar Ramirez.

“Mare of Easttown” premiered on HBO in 2021 and starred Kate Winslet as Marianne “Mare” Sheehan, a police detective investigating the murder of a teenage mother while her own life bursts at the seams. Nicholson played Lori, Mare’s best friend, whose son becomes embroiled in the murder investigation.

That sounds interesting.

Also INB4 something, something Mark Ruffalo.

Task was really good.

I sure ain't listening to Mark Ruffalo speak on politics or give his opinion of the environment... but I'll sure watch him in Task Season 2. I could give two craps about his opinions on... anything, really.

Wow, that's awesome.

As much as I loved Task, I still think Mare of Eastown was better. But both were top tier TV.

The creator of both was on the Ringer podcast the week the Task finale aired and talk about this. Ill look for the link. He wasnt sure at the time but said the two places they took place in are very close and we could see some cross pollinating.

Would be awesome IMO

Agreed. Loved Mare and Task.

I would be pretty disappointed in myself if I cared about any entertainer's opinion on politics.

This could be really good, if not great. Both Task, and Mare of Easttown caught me and my wife off guard with how good they were. Both shows take place in almost the same area in Pennsylvania, makes sense for a crossover.

That’s a cast with some legit chops too. Could make for another really good season.

Interested in how it will overlap with Mare.

Mare of easttown was what all the additional true detective seasons should’ve been.

It’s the best limited series hbo has produced in a while.

Would love to see more if they can keep the quality up.
