Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has very slyly revealed the roadmap for the next few Star Wars features in an interview with Vanity Fair. First up: Taika Waititi’s mysterious film

The details of the movie remain locked away, but 1917 screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns is still working with Waititi on the script. Within the Star Wars universe, Waititi directed an episode of The Mandalorian.

Kennedy also shares that Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron will most likely follow-up Waititi’s endeavor. As for Rian Johnson’s slate of franchise films, those have been “backburnered” due to the director’s preoccupation with Knives Out 2, as well as the overall deal he signed with Netflix. Johnson previously directed The Last Jedi in 2017, prior to the smash success of Knives Out.

The latest Star Wars flick was 2019's The Rise Of Skywalker, which capped off another trilogy for the film franchise. Meanwhile, a lot of energy’s been channeled toward related series, including The Mandalorian, The Book Of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kennedy hints that the future of the sci-fi saga may look a little different going forward, possibly stepping away from the old format.

“I hesitate to use the word trilogies anymore because Star Wars is much more about persistent storytelling,” Kennedy says. Persistent is right, with barely any breathing room offered between the combination of films and off-shoot series, including the newly announced Andor from Diego Luna and Ahsoka with Rosario Dawson.

Yep. Like with JJ and Bad Reboot, they keep producing crap and they keep getting huge projects.

My only explanation now is that JJ and his shitty wife have major dirt on a lot of people. No one this bad could keep getting such huge gigs otherwise.

JJ and his wife started the #TimesUp, the supposed anti-sexual misconduct org. in Hollywood. It poses as a social justice org, but it really just a Hollywood blackmail and power play org.

This is why no one stands in this guy's way even though he produces nothing but total crap.

Or it's because you've already announced two trilogies that will never be released.

Why wasn't this an issue in OT, Clone Wars Series, Rebels, Prequels, Rogue One, or The Force Awakens?

All had strong women characters, did they not?

But when fans complained about Rose or Holdo, it's suddenly "you hobbitzes only hatesez wimmen characterzess"

We won't know what is "good" until Waititi shows us.

Taika is hitting on all cylinders right now and has earned some leeway in whatever project he decides to take on.

Thor was basically a dead franchise because of Dark World and now it's arguably the best of the marvel movie series because of him.

James Gunn, Taika Waititi, Dave Filoni, and Jon Favreau have all earned tremendous latitude for their works with Disney

Rogue One was great. Idk why they don't contact that team for another movie or 2.

Not binding yourself to a trilogy format is a good play. What I'm skeptical of is building entirely new characters and trying to sell people on caring about them, because even with the loose connections to the skywalker saga that they tried to give Rey, Finn, etc people just aren't crazy about those characters.

If I had to guess it'll be hundreds of years in the future and someone finds the lightsaber that Rey buried. The Empire/First Order will be a part of history by then that is acknowledged but isn't necessarily shaping the galaxy in its current state.

I'm not a big Star Wars fan but I'm in on pretty much anything he writes/directs at this point.

Not a fan of KK at the helm, but this is maybe the most interesting thing she’s ever said and a good direction. No issue with 2 or 3 parters when there’s a plan ahead time to tell a cohesive story, but that’s been lacking. Just tell good stories in the universe first of all, even if in just a single film.

Also, Taika has my full support with the stuff he’s put out. Intrigued to see what he brings to Star Wars
