I'm not gonna insult or attack you.

But I have to ask, wouldn't it better to combine all the "Media is biased," "Would __________ get made today?," "Society is too PC," "Diversity is bad," "Hollywood is too left," and "Everything used to be better" topics into one thread?
I mean, they're all basically the same, right?

Yea, and Ripley remains a great example of a great female character because she embraces and demonstrates the feminine.

The role was originally written for a man and she progresses throughout the series to become more masculine. The only thing really traditionally “feminine” about her was motherhood. If anything, she flipped the genre on its ear by not being the standard, meek female sidekick.

It was quite the opposite of embracing female stereotypes at the time and has held up incredibly well, which tends to shite all over the suggestion that movies made now with similar themes won’t.

Here's a great video on why Aliens is the best feminist propaganda film of all time. LINK

Ripley is not a masculine character, especially in this one. She is more of a mother bear type. The badass stuff she does is to protect Newt. If you want a badass female, just look at Vasquez in this same movie.

i'm not going to debate anything past Aliens because they're mostly trash, but my wife watched Aliens for the first time with me recently and she was surprised that there was a heroine back in the 80s. she actually noticed that she was incredibly maternal towards Newt throughout.

there wasn't fanfare or anything for her character beyond just being an everywoman BA, she just was and everybody loved her for it.

90% of the populace that liked Wonder Woman liked it for being well written and "acted." not because it was a woman power type movie. i have no complaints about anything in WW. Ocean's 8, Atomic Blonde, I feel the same about.

When you try to highlight it and force it like Captain Marvel (at least in the marketing) or the needless scene in Endgame it becomes noticeable.

Keep this stuff on the political talk board, or the OT. It will be received better there.

As this very web site's user population has grown in the under-30 age group, I've observed the evolution of the zeitgeist of it (I've lurked this site for a very long time). Even discussing the topic brought up by the video brings on the downvotes, smug and dismissive comments, accusations of "isms", and triggered responses from a generation that cannot handle any kind of dissenting opinion.
