This is a comic book character, not a historical biopic. Chuck Dixon (who used to write the Batman books back in the 90's) has often said that these characters should be viewed as total fantasy and that trying to make them "realistic" really doesn't work. We're talking about people that can fly and shoot lasers out of their eyes. Fantasy.

As for Superman's costume, it was stolen straight from early circus strongman outfits, because that's the reference that Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster knew. The shorts belong there.

Nicolas Hoult is worthy of the benefit of the doubt here. He can be extremely intimidating and narcissistic, which is what is needed for Luthor. Jesse Eisenberg is incapable of being intimidating.

Luthor needs to have palpable menace and seems to be a tad older than Superman. Not sure Hoult is gonna pull that off.

About a ten year age gap is typically between Superman and Luthor. You could make Superman 25 and Luthor 35 in this and make that work. A young Luthor isn’t that big of a deal given he’s a protege in every sense of the word.

Luthor needs to be very intimidating though. Like if you knew nothing about the two except for their physical appearance between Luthor and Superman, you’d pick Luthor in a fist fight bet. Luthor should act that at any moment he could snap Superman’s neck, but that he restrains himself from doing so out of civility, even though Luthor isn’t physically capable of doing it.

But I posted this earlier in the thread, but if I was Snyder and not a fricking idiot, I would have for sure cast Billy Zane as Luthor who seems to look and act just like him in real life:

I think it was 4-5 in Smallville.

Rosenbaum played one hell of an intimidating Lex. You always sensed he was dangerous.

We get to see some aesthetics but not much plot or character detail, which is fine.

There are a mess of Justice Leaguers that *flash across the screen with zero context. That's setting the bar pretty high, right off the bat.

*Speaking of which, where's Barry Allen?

I remember some time back someone (maybe Gunn) was saying the movie was Supe's intro into a world that already had superheros. So the Hawkman/Mr. Terrific stuff may be from earlier in the movie before his "arrival."

There's a scene where Supes is off to the side and Green Lantern is sealing the door... they don't seem thrilled that he's there. Maybe he shows up, tries to handle a situation alone, or unaware of the others, and mucks up their plan.

I just hope we don't get Guardians of the Galaxy levels of quippy humor.

That would make sense. His suit looks like post kaiju fire blast, so this could have been his "debut"

Some YouTubers commented Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl were wearing Max Lord's unis, so this may be somewhat of a "turf" issue.

I would be shocked if there wasn't some of this. But hopefully it's kept to a minimum. Even prior iterations had some humor in them.

A paired down, more earnest version of said 'quip' would be sufficient, imo.

I was honestly surprised Gunn didnt cast Michael Rosenbaum - as close of friends as they are.

but Holt has the potential to kill it

No offense, but I'm continuously surprised that people would assume that TV versions of characters would be inserted into the film franchises of those characters. As perfect as Welling and Rosenbaum were for those roles, they would bring a ton of baggage from their TV series and even more preconceptions of how the writers and director should handle them.

As well as the fact that as good as Rosenbaum, Welling, Gustin, and Amell were as TV stars, none of them have made the leap to being film leading men. Directors just don't see them as big-budget leading men.

Also Hoult has said that his Luthor is largely inspired by Rosenbaum’s, Clancy Brown’s, and All Star Superman’s version, which is for all intents and purposes the definitive form.

“What are we going to do to get people to go see this after screwing over Cavill? Let’s put a dog in it.” This will bomb

Look, I love the Cavil version, and the way Synder did it form a director point of view. It was epic as frick, but, while this new guy is no Henry Cavil, he look decent enough as a Reeves, Routh, and Cain type of superman. Tyler Hochin sucks as superman sorry, could not get into it.

I'll give it a shot but Krypto the Superdog was always a very stupid concept, silly really. It makes the whole thing seems like a made for T.V movie, even the filter for it doesn't have the grand sense of an epic. Its very...Legends of Tomorrowy. Also Guy Gardner was a mistake, he always been the ugliest of the green lanterns and Nathan Fillion does not fit that mold.

I see the new trailer and did not feel the sense of awe and epicness as I did from synder MoS one.
