The Batman Part II’ To Start Filming In Spring; WBD CEO David Zaslav Confirms James Gunn Writing Next Movie In “Super Family”

quote:

The note praised the recent success of James Gunn’s Superman which has already grossed $560M worldwide. In addition, WBD CEO David Zaslav has other news.

“James Gunn is already preparing to write the next installment in the Super family,” he confirmed.

“In film, James Gunn is busy preparing the next installments of the DC super family, including Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026), Clayface (2026) and the next Wonder Woman. In addition, The Batman II (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development. The 10-year vision for the DC universe also includes an exciting array of television projects, including The Penguin, the upcoming new season of ‘Peacemaker,’ and the debut of ‘Lanterns’ in 2026. In a precise and measured way, the DC franchise will increasingly overlay across the studio’s broader efforts: from film and TV to consumer products, games, experiences and social.” reads the shareholder note.

I’ll never forgive them for making Greig Fraser choose between Batman 2 and Dune 3. He should have been the cinematographer for both and with this schedule he could have been.

Agreed. He got screwed with all the delays and uncertainty with the batman. He could've done both, but Denis couldn't wait around

If that includes the Batman 2, that’s a very slow release calendar. Which is very good. Take it slow.

Terrible

I wish the studios would collectively decide on at least a six month delay between movie release date and streaming

I don't. I'm not receiving a cut of the earnings. The sooner I get to stream the movie from home the better.

Well it’ll beat Aquaman 2 by 3 days.

Seems like there's still a little juice that could be squeezed - parents taking their kids to see the movie before they go back to school, people that may have missed seeing it because of summer activities, etc. It wasn't that long ago that a sizeable hit ran for months in the theater.

Hell, I remember Raiders and ET both were in theaters for over a year.

Won’t see that in today’s age at all

There’s a spike Lee/ Denzel movie based on a kirusawa film and it’s getting like a weekend run before going to streaming with Apple. Just awful way to do things

No Way Home stayed in theaters for 6 and a half months. Avatar 2 was in theaters for over 5 months.

When ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley told Gunn that it was heartbreaking to see “Superman” already “going to digital because I love a good, long theatrical campaign,” Gunn agreed by saying, “Me too.” The writer-director then explained the divisive decision.

“Well, it’s very complicated, but the truth is it is because of ‘Peacemaker,'” Gunn said. “I originally thought ‘Peacemaker’ was going to be coming out next month. There was a lot of things that are beyond our control, so that ‘Peacemaker’ is coming out now, and, at the end of the day, I wanted everyone to be able to see ‘Superman’ that wanted to, even those people who couldn’t get to a theater before ‘Peacemaker.’ And that’s really the reason for it.”

He’s always in damage control mode which isn’t ideal.

Ah, he probably can't say the real answer which is "That overpaid drooling moron David Zaslav wants the release window to be narrow so he can goose traffic to Max, HBO Max or whatever the frick he's calling it now."

Well he’s been making excuses for SM underperforming for awhile now even to the point of denying its theatrical run was coming to an end. This just looks like another excuse to cover for the failure.

Gunn said that we’ll find out (“it’ll be revealed) about Margot Robbie as well

Feel like that means there’s a good chance she’s coming back. Usually he gives a diplomatic answer about liking the actor and saying they aren’t coming back
