#Superman has been a #boxoffice hit this summer but some regions of the world have played better than others. North & South America have been strong, Europe mixed, while Asia rejected it. Here is how projected finals for Superman compare to Man of Steel:

US/Canada | +22%
Mexico/Brazil | +13%
UK/France/Germany | -18%
China/Japan/Korea | -72%

We need an Asian Brainiac to pump up those numbers for Super-2.

They better retcon that and just say that maybe Brainiac hacked into the baby Kal-El’s rocket which would also explain why the rocket was damaged.

Nope, Gunn has already stated it was them saying those things

I understand that, which is why I’m demanding a retcon. I don’t doubt he wrote it that way given how clear Lex was that he didn’t manipulate that, but there needs to be a retcon of that. That’s my only hardcore problem with the movie because I can just fast forward through the Krypto scenes.

No doubt

Also, did anyone find the kaiju to be kind of weird? I don’t know. It seemed like a really generic version of one that was too cartoony

Pattinson in the DCU, yes or no?

I'll take MOS over this Superman any day of the week.

Your opinion, but I did not enjoy Zack Snyder's characterization of Superman, nor his take on Clark's origin.

JL was good

ZSJL is a guilty pleasure, but the theatrical cut is one of the worst superhero films I've seen. You can tell they decided to make a completely different movie halfway through and rushed the shite out of the VFX, leading to some downright comical scenes.

The Batman intro was so bad. CW show level or worse.

The theatrical cut decided that Cyborg was a worthless character. It was soooo awful. I really liked the Synder cut.

Yeah, I was talking about Snyder's films. Whedon's version should be deleted from existence

Cyborg had a great arc in ZSJL

I mean, it’s so different that I’m a bit indifferent to it. I definitely want The Batman 2, but I’m a bit agnostic with it being in the DCU. Could work might not.

Oh also another minor problem: the Kents. I don’t think James Gunn understands the difference between country people and hicks. You know who he based Ma and Pa Kent on? I kid you not, Richard Christy’s parents from “The Howard Stern Show.”

Now, the Kents are country, but the Christys are outright world class hicks that regularly eat roadkill. Sorry, the Kents wouldn’t touch half the shite the Christys eat, and Clark being raised as a hick rather than from small town farmers doesn’t make as much sense for what he grew up to be:

It is kind of hick(ish) to pick an alien up out of the cornfield, then take it home and feed it.

It seems to be popular opinion that maybe he went a little too far with the parents. In the next movie we may not even see any parents so that will help. Most will probably forget about them imo. They may not retcon but I definitely see them moving from the parents.

Krypton or Kansas parents? I think the Jor-el storyline will play a big role moving forward

Both. If the parents in Krypton are a big focal point then that’s probably not going to go over well. So let’s hope not.

Unless they retcon it. I don’t think you can if you’re Gunn at this point.

You can’t double down on the divisiveness. That’s what killed them before.

Definitely. And bad choices for what should be a lay up. Does Gunn hate his own parents or something?

Don't retcon the Kryptonian parents into would be warlords (morally similar if not indistinguishable from the likes of Zod). And don't leave a substantial percentage of the audience with the belief that the adoptive Kansas parents might be a bit retarded.

He doesn't even have to admit the Krypton parents being benevolent (which they were in Reeves' or Cavill's iterations) is a retcon for the Gunn universe. The person who produced the message was Lex Luthor for Pete's sake. The idea of him lying about the essential nature of Superman is exactly what he is supposed to do. The idea that his deception isn't easily detected is also exactly what he is supposed to be capable of accomplishing.

He based the voices/accents on the Christys, not their diets.

I think Gunn hates the idea of Parents making Superman who he is. Or having Superman pre destined to things. Probably because he thinks it’s boring. And the Kansas parents it seemed like he wanted to have some comedy elements so he may have gone a little far.

He can easily dial back the Kansas parents. The Krypton parents wouldn’t be as easy especially since he already confirmed it. And if Gunn is attached to that origin he’ll leave it in place but maybe focus on other things so he doesn’t get people mad again. If he’s attached to it for the future in plot elements, this will be more trouble in the future. This is exactly what happened with MoS.
