I’m with you in Lex being childish. He was basically Joffrey from GoT. Not going to be everyone’s preferred Lex. But well executed for what it was.

I understand all of that. But the part that didn't fit was the selfie reveal of the map with Lex's name on part of the country.
The staged conflict was logical and fit his motives.
The carving off part of what appears to be a small third world country and renaming it was a small time ego move bearing no relationship to distracting Superman and sneaking into his Fortress.
There's also the ex girlfriends disposal into pocket universe bits. That was silly (unnecessary compared to other methods of disposal) and small time petty when you're dealing with a man who probably doesn't even have to date to have his sexual or other desires satisfied
He was lying to the president of Boravia as well. Had to make it look real.
Wasn't just his ex...he imprisoned lots of beings that annoyed him at some pt.

Oh that’s right. I need to finish that show. I’m a couple episodes in. Can’t remember why I stopped because it was great.

I think it was a combination of both Israel/Gaza and Russia/Ukraine also the conflicts between Israel and Palestine have been going on for far longer than October 7th

Pretty sure it was confined that the message was 100% real. Lex's motivation for taking over a part of the country was just a smoke screen for getting the government and the people on his side to kill Superman

I still don't buy it as real. Kara would have received similar instruction, and would be well aware of it.

That’s a good point and something that should be answered here very shortly with the Supergirl movie. We need to know her backstory on getting here in Gunnverse.

I don't either. If anything it fits more with the current zeitgeist of the unreliability of official institutions or expertise.
If it is real in the Gunn universe then Superman is arguably a very different character (no matter what you think about his parents being good the motivation of his genetic parents was also traditionally noble).
He's just harder to view favorably if his parents wanted him to be Genghis Khan

And I disagree with you. Because in this take, if the message is real, it means that Superman chooses to be a savior. It wasn’t his calling. In more simple terms, it makes him less lame. He’s not Mr. perfect who comes from Mr. and Mrs. perfect. I like it.
also wouldn’t care if it was fake either. But I definitely don’t hate this take.

We understand each other's perspective and disagree perhaps
Although I doubt that you disagree with my (and other people's) perspective that it is a massive change in the lore.

Somebody said in this thread that the comics are starting to go this route as well. But yes, it is a change from the lore. Which I think it’s very possible that gunn thought needed to change in order to make the character more interesting. They’ve had a hard time making Superman work. This humanizes him a little bit. Makes him a little bit more relatable. In terms of not having perfect parents.

This Superman seems really emotional, I've never seen a Superman that emotional. He gets riled up quickly, it seems like every little thing gets him going. That interview with the new Lois had him really fired up, and the dog thing, Krypto is it. So, what's the deal on this, do people like having a super dog?? Lol

It’s such an awesome show. That first episode with the cat lady had me hooked
Gunn says peacemaker season 2 will reveal what they’re building toward

They will retcon it, you can bet that

Yeah, I saw that. He’s forcing me to watch the show now lol. Which I’m not complaining because I did think it was really good.

James Gunn has to use animals for emotional moments. He can only do the one movie but his movies are fun.

Yeah, that’s the point of this Superman. He’s human. He even gives that big speech at the end of the movie. He’s not perfect, but he puts 1 foot in the front of the other and keeps going. He even says I’m human lol. May not be everyone’s preferred Superman.
He comes from dysfunctional parents from krypton adopted by normal regular people. I felt like that was the point of the entire movie. His parents from krypton may end up being super mom and dad. But right now, in his mind, that’s an issue that he has to deal with.
And the dog was for kids lol. And they are eating that shite up. We need kids to like Superman.

I think that has been a characteristic before. Christopher Reeves did that very well.
I agree with the concept that flaws make the character. That's not only true for him but for storytelling in general. A perfect being offers no relatability or dramatic engagement for the audience

Thanks, good review, everything you said makes sense and I agree with it. Thumb up!
