Need some assistance from the board. I picked back up on the Americans based off of the board's suggestions. I am mid-way through Season 3 and am losing interest. Do I need to just suck it up nd muscle through because it picks up, or should I bail if I'm not enjoying it now?

For those that watched all 6 seasons, how would you rank them?

suck it up.

I've never understood "giving up" on a show that is highly praised. Just keep watching.

Isn't that like telling someone that isn't into SciFi to watch all the Star Wars movies because everyone else is watching.

Sometimes a series just doesn't work out for some people. I would definitely go this route if I felt the same way towards the back-end of 5

Just because something is highly praised doesn't mean everyone will like it.

OP, I'd say if you're 2.5 seasons into the show and are losing interest, it may not be for you. The Americans is one that I've always thought about watching, as I've heard nothing but overly good things about it. Just have other shite to watch as well, so I never got into it (watched most of the pilot one night, but that was it).

You need to suck it up, I know it may seem like "filler" - it is not

The series finishes strong, and draws on every aspect and storyline from the previous seasons. For standard network cable, such a great show.

It's been a long while since I've seen the show, so I don't remember exactly which events occur in any particular season. I do remember a slow part along the way, but it picks back up and finishes strong. Everything wraps up nicely more or less.

Plus tits.

the whole Paige getting baptized does seem like unnecessary filler. The Kimmy struggle is very interesting in how you can tell he sees Paige in her. And, definitely curious to see how the whole Martha & adoption/baby will play into the whole plot. I can see a lot of potential here.

I do remember a slow part along the way,

I have a feeling that is where I am as they are spending way too much time trying to develop multiple backstories at once. Therefore, they really have to drag them out to get everything into 40-45 minutes.

It's been a while since I've watched, but I remember getting kinda tired of the Pastor Tim storyline. It eventually pushes thru and the series wraps so well.

And when I feel a show isn't for me I keep watching anyway.

I don't understand people that don't at all.

If you ever feel "stuck" on The Americans, its not worth going on. I was all in after 2 episodes, and it only got better for me after that.

Yeah, I loved it from the first episode and it was something I looked forward to every week. In my opinion there wasn’t a weak stretch that you need to grind through, like the second season of Friday Night Lights.

I think it stays consistent throughout.

The show may just not be your cup of tea.

I have bailed on 2 movies in my life because it doesn’t seem like much to “bear it” for 2 hours. It is a lot more of an investment to bear it for 40 more episodes (30 more hours), even if everyone is telling you it is their favorite show.

And this is coming from someone who thinks it is a top 3 show all time.

I would suck it up. If you make it to the finale, it is one of the best finales that has been done.

without going too far down this path, as you havent finished it yet....

Getting baptized is the ultimate, total, supreme, utter slap in the face of everything her parents believe in. Yet, it helps promote the narrative they are the most average of American families.

I'll leave it there, but just keep that in mind as you finish this out

The Paige / Christianity thing was the parents having to deal with their kids being Americanized. The entire series was the parents dealing with the fight of the cold war....ALL ASPECTS. Phillip came to terms with this much better than Elizabeth. He was always conflicted.

There are too many good shows out there to waste your time watching one you don't like. I got bored with it too though i loved the hot Soviet secretary.

Spoilers never bothered me. A lot of times I get more intrigued if I know the ending because I get to see the twists of how it get there.

I decided I’m at least going to push through 3. Partially bc of this thread, but mainly because I’m going to restart Turn: Washington’s Spies and want to wait until Friday night to start that
