i guess having most of the parents being basically clueless is a requirement for these shows? parents are dumb, kids are genius?
The characters in the film industry generally always have that depiction. Kids are open minded and will find the answers and the stubborn old parents are bad and ignorant unwilling to believe the open-minded enlightened children.
That's actually a general belief of the movie making industry...which does bleed into politics (think of the David Hogg types who are hailed as "experts with solutions"). Exact same mindset, young people-progressive/open-minded, adults-dumb/bigoted/ignorant/traditionalists.

You left out the part where the dad character is cast as a clueless, inept, goofy guy- especially if he’s white.

Pretty sure his character is 20 in the show by now. He was probably 17 as a junior in the first season in 1983. It’s 1986. Unless for some reason he was a 16 year old junior. So it’s not THAT big a leap.
And the point still stands that Keery and Dyer (who plays Nancy) have grown a lot as actors

The only nods are an attempt to keep continuity, but the other kids in the lab have different powers because they came up with much better lore to explore. This whole El storyline is basically retconning the 008 thing and disconnecting her from the series.
I wouldn’t go that far. I can’t remember if it was Brenner or Owens or maybe even One himself that said something about it being years before Eight escaped or something. So 8 is still there out in the world and the episode still happened where Eleven met her.
But I do think there were plans to bring that character back, maybe this season with everything going on at the lab, but because they had such backlash about the character and because they have SO many characters now that they probably decided that Eight just doesn’t have a stake in what’s happening. Why would she come back? They’re probably better off keeping her out so we can stick with and conclude the characters we’ve gone on the journey with

honestly forgot 008 even existed. what was her "power" again? stealing stuff and being homeless?
Posted on 6/3/22 at 9:05 am to MorbidTheClown
I’m pretty sure she was almost exclusively illusions

She's got a bunch (from the Wiki):
1. Invisibility - Kali can render herself and others completely undetectable to the human senses.
2. Duplication - Kali can create an exact facsimile of herself or that of someone else, which act as a holographic mirror of its molecular structure in the external world.
3. Phantasmagoria - Basically the same sh*t Vecna does.
She also made one of her friends hallucinate that spiders were crawling over his body, so weird coincidence.

Agreed. Thats my main point about why the 1+8+11 theory is unfulfilling storywise.
I would say the mention of 008 by 001 was a nod they put in specifically because of the sort of retconning. They had this great idea for 001/Vecna and it didn’t really jibe with their earlier attempt to expand the lore, so they just had 001 throw out a line of “oh yeah, 008 isn’t in this flashback because she already escaped or whatever. Anywho…”

I meant the actor playing Steve is 30 years old irl

Someone remind me when does 001 mention 008 and what exactly did he say
Posted on 6/3/22 at 11:07 am to crazyLSUstudent
I mean I see what you’re saying. But I’d argue Keery is a real up and comer. He was good in Free Guy. Just needs more opportunities.

When he is talking to El about the memory of her mother, he mentions “this was when 008 was still here” or “before 008 left.” That was the only mention

This was hands down the best season. Intense, bloodier than before, way more action packed, comedy, great storylines. It hit everything and still has more to deliver!

Netflix employees were in an uproar over Dave Chappelle making some jokes, so let’s not pretend they aren’t hyper woke.
Netflix employs over 12k people. When you have that many you are always bound to have noticeable amount that are upset at something.
This is like when people go "Oh look it's trending on Twitter so it must be huge" w/o realizing there are 330 million+ Twitter accounts and it only take as little as 500 tweets to trend.

If a portal opens everywhere vecna killed someone wouldn't there be a portal in the middle of the road where he killed that nerd?
Posted on 6/4/22 at 10:06 am to Byron Bojangles III
Yes, there should be one in the road as well. I believe they picked the trailer home b/c it was closer to where they were at the time.
It seems like you have to use some amount of force to get inside one so it's possible cars can just drive over it as long as they don't hit it in it's weak point.
Of course that could totally be wrong and perhaps the cops or that pack of angry jocks may end up falling into it during their search for Eddie.

Do we get a return of Billy? Vecna as 001 says they aren’t gone, they are in here, his mind. So does that mean they can be returned to their bodies?
Posted on 6/4/22 at 10:25 am to Lsut81
I think it's more like Vecna absorbs their memories or even possibly their soul.
Posted on 6/4/22 at 11:46 am to Dr RC
Maybe we could get people back...
That may be the point to the upside down being stuck in 1983.
Once the heroes win, it all goes back to peace.. maybe that means no Eleven..
I'm not saying I like this outcome. Just an observation
