I accept the hate for this finale but this was about as good as it could have been. A mixed bag, some unnecessary cringe moments, some sad tropes, fat kids can't run, got it, but generally well done.

The fight against the mind flayer could have been much more epic and was a let down to me. This was the easiest fight they’ve had in the series. It would’ve been more believable to have a restored Henry Creel break and renounce the mind flayer and join El to battle it and BARELY win in the process. This was too easy.

Probably my only complaint about the finale. Thought the final boss fight could’ve been a little more epic.
Yeah, it seemed to lack the gravity you'd have expected. But I think that was because you'd see something happen and then it cut to something else.
I get there is a lot going on but don't get too cute. It has to feel like something is happening.
All in all, not bad. I can see issues but it has some charm and fits fairly well.

My other complaint. They kill dozens of US troops get caught coming back out. Evil doc lady doesn’t get eleven. Would imagine they would all get punished but we never get an explanation why none of them are imprisoned or executed? Like the military just said ah damn guess we take the L on this one?
They killed the entire outpost full of people and lab experiment prego women. Dr K probably said thanks for erasing any trace of that, lol.

This didnt need to be 2 hours. I damn near fell asleep...so boring and predictable

So did Vecna just seem weak as a final boss type?
Maybe but short and sweet is better than the 45 minute CGI blowouts

But I think that's is kind of the expectation these days. The villain is misunderstood or just unhappy and has to be shown the light and then they're good people too.
Nope. Henry saw what the mind flayer was and said, "Yep, that's awesome," and went all in. Subverting expectations has some stigma but for it to work, it has to have some point and it definitely fits with everything that's been said.

That's probably part of it.
You all STFU and we won't imprison you for the rest of your lives.
The military had other things to worry and deal with and a quick closure makes everything easier.
Granted, they probably are under surveillance for the rest of their lives in addition (which works either way really).

Would be lying, when the door closed at the top of the stairs, if I wasn’t hoping to hear Mike say “El?!!?” Also think the ending was bittersweet with the actors crying as they went up the stairs realizing the series was over and that felt a bit more real to me than a lot of the season.
Disappointed no major deaths happened to the main cast. Felt like someone maybe needed to die but I feel like they also thought they should’ve done it earlier in the series.

Duffers always maintained this wasn’t Game of Thrones, they wanted a cheesy 80s adventure.

No way Hop walks though, his arse would have disappeared. Nancy probably would as well. Both straight up murdered soldiers.

Agreed. Makes it an even more baffling decision that they trapped Holly in the UP and we spent so much time with her instead of just making it Mike or involving him more in that storyline.
Kind of felt bad for him. He lost El. Joyce, Hopper, Nancy, Jonathan are basically gone. Dustin and Will will be off to college. Seems like Max and Lucas will stick around but they’ll be wrapped up in each other. Mike really got the shaft

Epilogue was great. The rest? Meh.
The whole season was a mess. The show just kinda fell into a trap of every season having to get bigger and crazier that it got away from the nostalgic charm and great writing the first season had.
But I was pleasantry surprised with the ending. Stranger things will definitely stay on my list of shows to re-watch every couple of years. I didn't think that would be the case with the way the rest of the season was going, even if you omit Will's cringy we all like Lucky Charms monologue.
If the show is in your top 5 you need to watch more shows, but I can see it in peoples top 10.
It stuck the landing better than most shows
Posted on 12/31/25 at 10:51 pm to Lsut81
As bad as the previous episode was, they completely redeemed it and stuck the landing.
Hell of a finale.
And dang did they kill it in terms of music selection.

Maybe they didn't necessarily know who did what when things went down.
And I don't think the military with an semi-off the books operation wants a lot of questions with a trial/holding/potential expanding circle of problems with targeted executions/disappearances. Like, they can't indefinitely hold the children . . . and they probably can point out a lot of things they don't want told.
I still think they had more important things to handle. They lost the ability to achieve their objective, lost a decent number of personnel, lost their base in the Upside Down.
Linda Hamilton's general seems fairly pragmatic and I think she realized that jig was well up by that point.

So are ever gonna find out why Henry as a kid was in that cave with that man that he killed? Overall though I think it was a decent ending. The show definitely had a more marvel vibe than the early seasons though.
Posted on 12/31/25 at 11:07 pm to rebel of fortune
I took him being in the cave as he was exploring with his troop, hence the outfit, and heard screams coming from it. Like any young boy, he went to investigate and upon being shot he was filled with rage and decided to strike with a rock.

So how much should we read into the images of the credits? Was it just a game the whole time, or is this Mike’s book/story?
