But Eleven was being developed as a psychic spy/assassin.
Right and her first target was going to be a Soviet but she go distracted by the Demagorgon.
Also, the idea of the Soviets funneling large amounts of money into the US for clandestine purposes is the least unrealistic thing about the series. They did that all the time.
They were perfectly willing to splash the cash on simple disinformation campaigns back in the day. In fact some KGB operatives admit they created the rumor that the US had secretly developed AIDs and used it to discredit our government in Africa. Which, I should add, helped lead to hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of deaths on that continent.
For something like this they'd dump millions into the bucket without batting an eye. The Soviet Union was poor in comparison to us, but they had more then enough money to blow on things they really wanted.

I thought the season was good.
Overall, a fun season. Billy was great as a bad guy, Hopper, Will's mom, the conspiracy guy and the Russian were great scenes.
I thought it was a little over the top with the truth serum, oh maaaaan we are so wasted, scene.
I'm kind of over the demogorgon/mindflipper and only 11 can effect it thing. Maybe give Will a power since he harbored the creature and lived..
I could have done without the suzie scene as well. Too much screen time for a small character.
Do they ever discuss why they all decided to move , and to where?

S3, S1, S2 in typical 80's grades of trilogies.
S1 has the benefit of being the first. Great original music / score and all the thrilling moments can be abstract.
S3 pure 80's glory for the first 2 episodes. Used some good 80's songs and the main setting at a mall. They had to bring the monster big bad to visual form and imo it looked good. Can't stay in the past, heart felt wrap up.
I think they start another trilogy. Either Hopper or Brennan a couple years later, in another city, and new kids. That's what I'd like to see.

The actor that played Billy was really good. And he got his chance to fight back at the end and died a bad arse death.
Also noticed the camera work direction on the characters with the stacked head shots, typical 80's shot.
I think the moving was symbolic of moving on because these kids aren't kids anymore.

Yeah, the political hot takes are just sad and I'm trying to ignore the stupidity.

So who’s the American prisoner at the end of the series? Is hopper still alive?

I just finished it. I thought it was great.

This was unbearable. If they wanted to stick that in episode 2 or 3, fine. But putting something like that in the last third of the final episode as it nears the climax was just ridiculous. Completely unfunny and out of tone with everything else that was taking place.
The forced attempts at comedy with season 3 kind of remind me of The Last Jedi - unfunny jokes that are inserted at the worst possible times in the story.

Yes. If you don't see them dead, they are alive.
Two options, Hopper or Brennan for other seasons.
I'd like to see them explore the upside down world.

I think Hopper is done. The American in captivity is most likely Brenner for a few reasons:
- We never see him actually die. He gets tackled by the Demogorgon, and then the camera cuts away.
- It would perfectly explain how the Russians are even aware of the Upside Down and Hawkins.
- The Duffers have been evasive when asked in interviews if Brenner is actually dead.
Good call and they can dangle a Hopper return unless the actor or someone working with the show outright says it.
I bet most people expect him to return.

The Russian dude repeating that weird phrase is David Lynchy.

Pure awesomeness, totally 80's.

True I guess I’m just assuming that if he did die, hed die like all the other people in that room and have their bodies just evaporate. Hence why we didn’t see a body. I feel like Brennan would be less of a shocker or surprise or have any value of being alive to the audience

Can you imagine when your life depends on it and then you hear two kids singing a song on the walkie talkie? lol

Also, I'm sure it's been pointed out, but a lot of this season felt like Terminator. The Russian guy and even Billy in one scene had such Terminator feel. The score, the way they walked. The final fight between the Russian guy and Hopper kind of felt like a Terminator movie. The Russian guy had face injuries looked like Arnold toward the end of a Terminator movie. So fricking cool.

I never thought about that you are right!

The mayor even called him Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Anybody else notice that when something frightening or threatening happened, Lucas would take off running and leave Max to bring up the rear?
Aside from the SJW filler, I liked it, but it did have some problems it didn't need to have. Some of the dialog was modern and didn't fit in an 80's setting.
Also, they occasionally had James Bond abilities and actually, physically defeated Russian soldiers. I'm sure they could have figured out a way to run away or something. That was just lazy.
And as was the case last season, all of the dudes were idiots and the girls were all geniuses. Nancy even had a Sherlock Holmes crime scene moment, complete with the signature CGI graphic breakdown.
I blame Wynona Rider. Never let lesbians hijack your TV show.
