I actually think episode 7 was a setup or test for a potential spin-off outside of Hawkins. It certainly had some value for El, but to me it seemed like a test for a spin-off

It was. The creators are keeping it in their back pocket as a way to continue the series in some fashion.

This season was much funnier than last. Dustin was the real mvp.
Dustin is great. That hair at the end. Hahahah.
I enjoyed this season as much as the first.

From what I understand. It was also viewed as a “bonus” episode. I thought it helped with the origins aspect of Stranger Things.

Billy helped Steve show some of that growth you're talking about. Max gave something for Lucas to do which was nice. Last year Lucas was the guy that was just pissed at his friends the whole time. She also lead to the funny mentor/mentee interactions between Dustin and Steve. Dustin and Steve walking down the train tracks talking about girls was great.
I also agree with others that said it felt like there was a lot more to Billy and Max's back story than we ended up being told. They'll either reveal this in season 3 or they way over played Billy. Him hitting on Mike's mom was hilarious though. They should do more of that and less of Roid Rage Billy.
agree on all points. even though Steve isn't a lead, you could tell he grew a lot and was a lot more responsible and kindhearted from last season to this one. Billy helped highlight that.

Disappointed to see they are continuing with the Hawkins storyline. This series is perfect for transitioning to new storylines every season. Oh well.
What the frick?
This show was completely made by the characters and setting being so great and authentic. You want to get rid of all of that?

Hey guys, going to watch it tonight, but could we agree on this thread to start each post with a number and then going down 3 spaces so we know what episode we're talking about and not to get spoiled beforehand?

Will has been abducted back by the Monster!
Just so we can stay on the same page for people not binging it in a single sitting.
Just watch them all first, nerd. Love how you've taken on the hall monitor role though.

I think Roid Rage Billy is built up because of his relationship with his father. But we'll have to see where that goes. I honestly don't see him fitting in with the rest of the Hawkins High crew. Especially after Max told him to piss off.

Also, Steve had some personal growth at the end of S1. It was glad to see that the writers developed that growth more.

I think it helped Eleven realize where her "home" really is. I also think it showed her how dark she could become if revenge and anger are all she focuses on.

Also, a lot of "super power" characters have that episode/story arc where they learn to harness and control their powers. That episode provided that, in addition to helping Eleven figure out her home and reaffirm her moral compass.

Did anyone else get nervous when they put the dead demi-dog in the refrigerator? You know....with the whole "he likes it cold" angle?
Great season!

100%
I thought he was going to wake up for sure.

Lucas is the seemingly only black kid in friggin Hawkins, Indiana. For a middle school character that's going to have a natural interest in girls, there's a good chance that he's going to end up flirting with and getting paired with a white female character. Nothing SJW about it, just how the story is going to logically go.
My best friend growing up (in the 80's) was one of the few black kids at our school. He ended up valedictorian, football player, etc, etc, etc. There wasn't a white girl at my high school that he couldn't have dated. He didn't have many options.
Loved this season almost as much as the first. It hits all the buttons for me. It's the cinematic equivalent of comfort food.

The development of characters like Steve is what sets this show apart from many others imo.Would have been so easy (and lazy) to make him one-note douche boyfriend, but they refused.
Yep. Dude turned out to be one of the more likeable characters. Him and Dustin's dynamic was awesome.

I really liked Sean Astin's character. Had a feeling he'd die a hero, but I thought he integrated well.
Same. Pretty cool of them to make him the founder of the AV club.

Definitely this. Dustin is my favorite character on the show by far.

I don't really see what Max and Billy added to the series.
I didn't mind adding them. Adding Max (an outcast) to a group of outcasts/nerds was cool. Plus it was funny to see Dustin and Lucas trying to win her over. That line when Lucas said he told Max about everything and she didn't believe him and Dustin responds "probably because you didn't tell it right" was hilarious. Billy was the most over the top character ever and it was awesome. Still wanna know why he hated Lucas so much (would just be pretty random to hate him bc he was black).

Mrs.Wheeler is fine as hell.

Nancy is bae.
Absolutely. Plays a pretty good drunk too. The scenes with her, Jonathan, and the detective were great.

Give me a Dustin/Steve spinoff pls.
+1
A few things I'll add. I feel the same about episode 7 as the majority it seems. It just felt out of place, especially with the ending of Ep 6. I do think it was a necessary moment for Eleven though. Im sure we will see her sister next season with Papa.
Also felt like the ending was a tad anti climactic. I guess I was waiting for the big bad reveal at the end and it kind of fell flat. But it wasn't terrible.
Once again the score was incredible. So was the acting. Me and my roommate said it last night while watching, the kid that plays Will might have the best acting skills out of all of the kids and thats saying something. He's really good.
Great season. Ready for S3.

Please don't tell me this board is being ridiculous because Lucas and Max might have interest in one another...

I'm not done with it yet, but I feel dumb for questioning what they could do with a season 2. I'm enjoying this more than I did season 1.

I like the transformation of Steve from a real choade to being in on the whole thing and his friendship with Dustin which is hilarious...." You didn't think keeping an inter dimensional creature as a pet was a problem?" and his advice on hair care ....Faberge and Farah Fawcett hair care products

Finished it today. Loved it but not as much as Season 1. My main issue is the amount of time the characters spend away from each other during the middle episodes. When they do get back together in 8 & 9, everything picks up and ends great.

To take it one step further, my buddy and I almost came to blows over a certain redhead. He ended up with her just like in Stranger Things.
It's like they wrote this story around my friend group growing up in the 80's. This show pushes all my buttons.
