I think King is openly non-commitalnfornthe most part in adaptations. He came out and said he makes a lot of money whether the adaptions are good or bad so he’s learned to not comment much if he doesn’t like it.
As to the Shinning. I’m not a huge fan of the book or the movie though I like both. And I get King’s point. The story of Jack Torrence is supposed to be overwhelming brutal fiery emotion as the alcoholism tears him apart. To King, the Kubrick version does a huge disservice to Jack who loves his son and is tormented with rage. In the movie, Jack just kinda goes crazy from cabin fever

King & GRR Martin should start a school for How to make millions and not write completed works.

The Body was a short story which went on to become one of the greatest movies of all time…

King's a nut. He wrote his best work when he was an addict and not the bitterman he is today. It's certainly good for him and his family he turned that part of his life around, but I feel there's a lot of modern hindsight coloring the selection of those particular works.

Complete with weirdness. Should have been written more like the screenplay ended up.
The screenplay is a lot less fleshed out while remaining equally if not even more weird than the book, and I'm saying that as someone who loves both. Not sure what you're basing this on other than just personal preference

King is a savant for creating horror scenarios and an idiot for his prose, structure and political grandstanding.

Not even close to the same ballpark. Usually agree with you on most everything, but I think you're letting King's shitty politics sway you too much here.

I wish someone could do a good film adaption of The Stand. I have fond memories of watching the original miniseries with my parents when
I was 9 but there has to be someone out there who could give the world The Stand adaptation it deserves.

King has completed plenty of works. That's not a very good comparison.

Stand By Me
I'm of the belief his short story collections are far superior to his novels. Everything's Eventual is a great collection of stories.
It probably wouldn't stand up well to a visual adaptation, but Road Virus Heads North is one of my favorites.
That said, the collection in Different Seasons is pretty amazing. Stand By Me, Apt Pupil, and Shawshank Redemption were all adapted from that collection and they're all great stories.

They did just redo it a couple of years ago. It's on a streaming service...Peacock or P+ I think

Everyone should do themselves a favor and find a copy of the short story "The Jaunt" from Skeleton Crew. I'm sure it's online somewhere. Not super long, but creepy as hell. One of those ones that sticks with you. Creepy isn't really even the right word. Just unsettling.

That's a good one as well.
Also put me in the crew that is horribly disappointed that Castle Rock didn't explore that universe further on Hulu. Sissy Spacek was fantastic in the first season and Lizzy Caplan as a young Annie Wilkes was spot on.

I am likely, very much in the minority, but my 2 fav stories of his was Eyes of the Dragon and The Mist.
even the movie based on the Mist was good in it's own way.
the movie Dreamcatcher was horrible, but never read the book

King doesn’t think so.
