If I'm not mistaken, the Zerg from Starcraft were based on the bugs from Starship Troopers.

If you ever got the Zerg built up really good before somebody attacked you in Starcraft, you were unstoppable.

No, it’s not.

If this is what you think about the movie, don’t ever bother reading the book.

They also supposedly hurled an asteroid at Earth from the other side of the galaxy. Even more ridiculous. You have any idea how fricking long that would take, and the mathematical accuracy that would require?

Then again I think that's why I go with the theory that Buenos Aires was an inside job perpetrated by the Federation in order to instigate the war.

Yes, it is. The movie takes practically the opposite tact as the book. The movie is not the book. It has a completely different creator and a completely different goal.

The book is a conservative, as was Heinlein, work that ambitiously and sincerely tries to discuss the philosophical virtue of the military. The idea that a person serving the defense of his community and then species is the highest form of morality.

The movie satirically and sarcastically attacks hyper militarism and the propaganda that is used to support it. Satirizing fascism is Paul Verhoeven's trademark. He deals with it in several of his films and is outspoken in discussing it.

Um do you have eyes? Or are you watching a different movie?

Nothing that resembles the third Reich here

Or here

And this doesn’t look like the hitler youth

But like I said in my previous post, it’s a satire.

But more importantly, I don’t understand why you would bring up the book, when I’m talking about the movie. And more importantly why can’t we just appreciate the movie on a superficial level? It’s just a fun movie to watch.

Still the only movie I’ve ever been to see more than once while it was in theaters.

I’ve heard rumors that there is a new movie in development, one that is more faithful to the book.

As much as I love the book and want to see true, powered armor equipped Mobile Infantry, I don’t see any way they can top the absolute perfection of the ‘97 film.

97 film was pretty bad even though it was a piece of satire making fun of the military and filled with Nazi references.

Of course, just like BSG, they could have fancy spaceships, lasers, but could not figure out how to have a rifle that fired explosive rounds or laser shots.

Invasion was pretty fun, Rico became Solid Snake.

Haven't watched Traitor of Mars yet.

I mean I was always under the impression that Starship Troopers took place in a future in which the Axis has won WW2

Idk if it is definitively said anywhere, but a far more compelling argument can be made that the source was Warhammer 40k

I love how we are all stuck on the fact that bugs shat something to outer space but are neglecting the fact that Doogie Howzer is telepathic...

The concept of telepathy, and to a lesser extent, telekinesis has been kicked around for a long time.

Would you really, REALLY be shocked if it actually does exist, and is militarized, right now? Or if it comes out in the next couple centuries?

For the Protoss, yes. The Zerglings are almost a carbon copy of the soldier bugs from Starship Troopers.

And the entire race is almost a carbon copy of the Tyranids, down to the psionic sensitivity.

Furthermore, Warhammer influences have been expressly citied for other games.

Warcraft was actually a Warhammer game in early concepts that converted to original IP when licensing fell though.

Like I said, won’t say it definitely wasn’t based from starship troopers. But a stronger argument can be made for Warhammer.
